After a glittering first day of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016, Day 2 saw multiple designers take over the premises of St Regis hotel in Mumbai as well. Established names like Kallol Datta, Sanjay Garg and Anavila Misra showcased their winter/festive collections alongside exciting newer entrants like Runway Bicycle and Weavers Studio. The result was an explosion of Indian fashion’s best.
Padmaja kept her collection casual and flowy, sticking to sombre colour palettes or whites, greys and blacks. The checkered asymmetrical dress was one of our faves. Bina Rao for Creative Bee, on the other hand, stuck to her forte and created wearable festive attire using handloom fabrics and block printing for both men and women.
Cropped dungarees, flowy silhouettes (of course!) and sheer capes were the order of the day for the much-anticipated Runway Bicycle show. Though largely monochromatic, a few earthy reds and browns successfully added some funk to the collection. Hemang Agarwal’s cool, metallic, futuristic showcase received quite a few wows from attendees and rightfully so. Androgynous shirts and suits, vests, bell-sleeved dresses and maxi skirts took over the runway, giving us all major #fashiongoals. The details in terms of prints and bow-ties are not to be missed.
The winter colour palette was very much imbibed in both Kaleekal’s and Three’s collections this season. Breathable fabrics in anti-fit silhouettes and numerous variations of the white shirt for men and women were the common threads here. Don’t miss the ongoing athleisure trend here.
The burst of colours and prints in both Mayank Mansingh Kaul & Monisha Ahmed’s and Planet Love’s collections provided much-needed relief from the sea of blacks and greys. These designers proved that you don’t need to stick to dull hues just because the temperatures are dropping. Busy prints, sexy chiffons and tailored pieces took the runway by storm and we loved every bit of it.
Kolkata-based Weavers Studio made their LFW debut with some beautiful ethnic and Indo-western fusion wear. Long jackets offset sexy bustiers and traditional Malayali-style saris were teamed with oversized shirts. Pella’s metallic khadi pieces and rustic flowy separates made the audience sit up and take notice.
