From Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid To Blake Lively, All The Best Dressed Stars At Met Gala 2022

From Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid To Blake Lively, All The Best Dressed Stars At Met Gala 2022

One of the most anticipated events of the year is finally here. Excited and thrilled to watch our favourite celebrities walk the red carpet, Met Gala 2022 has finally arrived and is gracing its annual Monday of May. Celebrating the history of American fashion, the costume institute’s exhibition titled– In America: An Anthology Of Fashion has finally opened gates for the world’s biggest celebrities to mark their stylish presence. Kickstarting with an opening ceremony The First Lady, Dr Jill Biden, flagged off the year’s most anticipated exhibit. Speaking further about the art of design and style, Dr Jill Biden expressed the bridging gap between fashion and politics as she revealed her upcoming plans to interact with Ukrainian families amidst the Russia-Ukraine war. The preview also witnessed a list of the world’s most popular filmmakers–Martin Scorsese, Tom Ford, Chloé Zhao and Janicza Bravo amongst others who have put their distinct aesthetics on display through “freeze frames,” narrating the brilliance of some of America’s history makers in the field of fashion and design.

Now talking about the stars of the special evening, for whom the world is cheering on the other side of the huge barricades or perhaps through screens too, like myself. Probably the only time when the ticking clock’s anxious sound runs a leher of excitement through my blood, and the rush is nothing but worth the wait. With A-listers swaying in glimmering gowns and studded crowns, Met Gala 2022 remembers the Golden age in American history with the theme of the season– ‘Gilded Glamour.‘ Bringing the grandeur back on the red carpet, Gilded Glamour pays homage to the significant time period from the year 1870 to 1890, a time of massive industrialisation and economic growth. Something Lord Anthony Bridgerton would appreciate to see you in, Gilded Glamour is a reflection of the current times, and a tribute to America’s notable names in history. So, brace yourself dear readers, ’cause the moment is finally here.

Hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, and La La Anthony alongside fashion magazine–Vogue, the gala earlier named Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as the event’s official co-chairs. While I am not pretty happy with the many big names who missed out on delivering show-stopping looks, some others did work well on their research and surely understood the assignment.

Blake Lively

The queen never misses to shine, and Blake proves her reign on the red carpet yet again. Wearing an off-shoulder metallic, bronze gown, Blake’s look for the big night was brought to our screens by Versace. Choosing the Italian fashion house’s intricately embroidered, dual dyed, tulle gown, Blake definitely understood the assignment. Accessorising the look further, the Gossip Girl star opted for a delicate crown, matching jewels and dual-coloured opera gloves. Having her very own Lady Gaga moment, Blake was escorted by four well-suited men, who helped colour the queen in a beautiful shade of sea green, as they unwrapped the massive ribbons, sealing the dress.

Ryan Reynolds

Watching his wife in awe, Ryan made sure to give his look a velvet finish. Opting for the fail-proof classic black and white pant suit recipe, Mr Reynolds’ look for the gala rooted for monochrome, since wife Blake chose to wear the loudest burst of colours. Thank you Ryan for taking the “white tie” dress code too seriously, we love that fit on you. Although a little tail to the coat wouldn’t have hurt.

Natasha Poonawalla

My most favourite look from the evening was brought together by two powerhouses–Sabyasachi and Schiaparelli. Mutli-hyphanate Natasha Poonawalla makes way to the Met Gala in a custom-made saree, teamed with hand-forged metal corset. Embodying the true essence of gilded glamour, Natasha relied on extensive accessorising, with precious stone laden jewels including hairband, sunglasses, mani-rings, bangles and earrings. What additionally caught our attention was Natasha’s approach to stitching extravaganza to her look. This outfit is what dreams are made of. Bang on brilliant.

Billie Eilish

Cinched waist, pastel silks, tightened corsets, chokers and loads of pleats, Billie turned heads on the red carpet in a sustainable Gucci attire. Made out of pre-existing, up-cycled material, the “Lovely” singer looked incredibly lovely in beige, pistachio green ensemble, with hair tied into a messy bun. Well, Billie’s outfit delivered and how. The Bridgertons would appreciate this one.

Kylie Jenner

While I was hoping for Kylie to dig a little deep, this Off-White bride was an interesting addition to her Met Gala look book. Wearing the runway look as it is, Kylie’s massively long train was grand but not gold.

Kim Kardashian And Pete Davidson

A moment to remember, Kim K arrived with beau Pete Davidson, as the two made their Met Gala debut together. Kim surprised us with her new hair colour that perfectly matched her nude, slim fitting dress, embellished with crystal details. Indeed one of my favourite looks, Kim teamed the vintage 60-years-old Marilyn Monroe piece with a white fur jacket and diamond chandelier earrings. And walking alongside Ms Kim was her beloved Pete who relied on a double breasted black pant suit and his classic black sunglasses, which are a regular on SNL.

Alicia Keys

Alicia brings the heart of the gilded age–New York to the red carpet. Opting for designer Ralph Lauren’s designs, Alicia wrapped herself in a dazzling silver, one-shouldered gown, layered under a long black cape that featured the tall towers of New York City. She further sealed her look with hair styled into a neat braid and decorated it with silver spiral accessories.

Cara Delevingne

Cara never fails to impress. A goddess in gold, Cara’s red pant suit for the evening was all sorts of regal and vintage, as she chose to style a cropped blazer and pants with gold jewels, shimmer tinsels for the eyes, all perfectly cut in edge for the big night.

Olivia Rodrigo

A princess in lilac, Olivia brought the movie star glam through her Versace ensemble. With butterflies in her hair, Olivia’s beautiful glitter number, featured a cowl neckline, delicate cold shoulders, paired with sheer opera gloves, and dainty diamonds. What a star!

Gigi Hadid & Bella Hadid

Ruling the red carpet and how, Gigi arrived in a latex maroon catsuit, matching corset and the hero piece in the ensemble–quilted cape coat. Adding her spin to the extravaganza, the three-piece ensemble was beautifully styled by Gigi with an artistic bun and red lips. While I liked Gigi’s look, the other Hadid–Bella had my eyes on her. Bella arrived in Burberry’s corset dress featuring a draped lace detail, which she paired with a chunky pearl anklet and a victorian hair updo.

Cardi B

Rocking Donatella Versace’s idea of gilded gold, Cardi B was covered in gold for Met Gala 2022. From her outfit to truckloads of jewels, Cardi B embodied opulence of the golden era through her ensemble.

Dakota Johnson

Turning into a Gucci girl for the big night, Dakota’s two piece ensemble featured a glimmering, tasseled cat suit, which she layered under a deep red, velvet overcoat, followed by a long train. Keeping her signature bangs intact, Dakota opted for a dramatic smoky eye look.

Phoebe Dynevor

Diamond of Bridgerton season 1, Phoebe did justice to the title in a Louis Vuitton ensemble. Dressed in a two-tier, semi-sheer black gown, Phoebe’s gala look featured black tonal embroidery around the waist, followed by a tulle. Sporting a hair style that resembled Sophie Turner’s, Phoebe said yes to a graceful crimp, and well we love it.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

Colour co-ordinating with the invitees, the soon-to-be parents arrived in a monochrome Louis Vuitton palette. Opting for an asymmetrical white coat, Joe’s version of a strict ‘white tie’ dress code had a little jazzier spin to it, while mumma-t0-be Sophie arrived in a long black gown with silver studs attached to the bodice and her beautiful baby bump. For hair, the Game Of Thrones star relied on a brunette crimp, while her husband made sure both his hair and pearls were shining for the big gala.

Sarah Jessica Parker

SJP arrived in Christopher John Rogers’ checkered two piece ensemble for the big night. While the gilded theme for SJP was to opt out of the glitter party, she made sure to call our attention towards her voluminous, massive hair bun. Further sealing the look in Victorian style, SJP added a floral head piece in the shade violet to add a pop of colour to her muted look.

Gemma Chan

Another star in Louis Vuitton, Gemma’s structured waist, chandelier cut, crystal-embellished attire was pulled out from the archives of LV’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Pairing one of LV’s current most popular pieces (remember HoYeon Jung’s choice of gold in the same outfit for Critics Choice Awards?), Gemma infused some old-school 90’s charm with well-seated curls and loads of diamonds. However, the look loses the essence of a fresh pairing, the LV piece had to make it to the best-dressed list.

Vanessa Hudgens

The lovely host for the special evening, Vanessa Hudgens is a dream in Moschino. Opting for a sheer black gown, Vanessa’s outfit featured black lace and tonal thread work on the bodice, dramatic puff sleeves, followed by a huge lace train. Completing her look, Ms Hudgens made sure to add some drama to her top knot too, which she made sure to decorate with silver embellishments. A spicy spin to the gilded age dressing.

Janelle Monáe

American musician Janelle wore all that glitter right. Posing in a sequinned, black Ralph Lauren gown, Janelle mastered the art of stitching the nuance of the gilded age by teaming her look with an embellished, crystal headpiece attached to her dress.

Hailey Bieber

Having fun with feathers, Hailey arrived on the red carpet minus husband Justin Bieber this time. Dipped in pearly white, Hailey turned muse for YSL in a satin halter neckline gown, that she teamed with a long feather cape, sheer black stockings, her classic top knot and diamond jewels.

Shawn Mendes

My favourite Shawn Mendes has never dished out stale style at Met Gala and it was a success this year too. Experimenting with strong collars, and some red carpet dressing up, Shawn followed queen Blake’s foot steps and unleashed his dual-dyed pant suit on the red carpet. Allowing some freshness to couture Shawn matched his crisp Tommy Hilfiger ensemble with marble hued manicure. Many also enquired “Dr Strange, is that you?”

Kacey Musgraves

Musician Kacey took a dip in the theme for the night and we loved it. Opting for a statement black gown, Kacey arrived in old-school cabaret style, with hair styled into an artistic top knot, feather fan as an arm candy, opera gloves and delicate diamonds.

Kaia Gerber

Kaia turned muse for Alexander MCQueen as she took a dip in gold for the big gala. Painted with perfection, Kaia’s ivory attire is sprinkled with the charm of youth. The multi-cut ivory gown tones down the OTT glimmer that the gilded age is all about, but accentuates the look with beautiful bold curls, sealed with headlined hair pins.

Ashley Park

Emily In Paris star Ashley looked pretty in pink, as she walked the red carpet wearing designer Prabal Gurung’s creation. Detailed with feather laden skirt, teamed with a hot pink corset, attached to wich are bold bow sleeves, Ashley’s take on Gilded Age’s staple–corsets feels like a dress code that Barbie would happily follow. Further more, she accessorised the look with diamond neck and ear pieces, and sealed it with a high ponytail. Emily is proud of you Mindy.

Winnie Harlow

Model Winnie Harlow was indeed a work of art on the red carpet. Wearing designer label– Iris Van Herpen, Winnie’s flower cut-out white dress, was a masterpiece, teamed with a matching head piece. Excessive and statement making, Winnie’s sheer white petals, featured black thread work in the centre. She styled the look with basic pump heels and gosh, we loved it.
