Fashion has never been limited and exclusive to gender, colour, caste or creed. It is nothing but a mode of great joy, and appreciation of art while having lots and lots of fun when curating a look. And one industry that shares a close bond with another F (fashion here) is the filmy duniaya and its celebrities. Be it red carpets or the tiny grids of Instagram, stars have always been making sure, that their fashion is always ‘first-class.’ From our beloved Bebo to sizzling Katrina Kaif, celebrities have their own ways of showcasing their love for style and trends. And one of Bollywood’s most stylish stars is now filmmaker/ producer and Birthday boy Karan Johar. As someone who has braided fashion with films, giving birth to iconic characters and fashion trends, it is in recent years when Karan Johar found his distinct taste in the glitz and glam of style, and well his Instagram is proof of his journey with fashion.

From opulent, larger than life jackets which are at all times a victim of Farah Khan’s sarcasm, or even his jazzy sunglasses that come in all colours and moods, the now 50-year-old filmmaker is definitely the main character of his story and playing the part well too. And as an appreciation post for our beloved Karan, we have listed down the 10 times he dressed up and surprised the internet.

Dashing In D&G

A lover of monogram outfits, that scream ‘fashun’ through every stitch, Karan Johar’s collection of luxury labels always has me jealous. Be it his favourite Gucci tracksuits or Dolce And Gabbana leather jackets, Karan’s style language is luxe pro max. I mean just look at this D&G look, isn’t it on fire, as Mr Ranveer Singh himself has noted?

Hot Red Mirchi

A significant feature of Karan Johar’s sartorial taste is his love for grandeur, much like his larger than life sets and onscreen khandaans. Always in favour of dopamine dressing, Karan Johar made red look hot and sexy in this red pantsuit by designer Kaushik Velendra, which comes with strong padded shoulders. Making way for cool accessories, Karan welcomed red sunglasses to complete the look and well, nailed it too.

Prints Please

Karan Johar worked his magic alongside stylist Eka Lakhani when he dropped a brand new picture wearing a black pantsuit. While we know Karan’s collection of classic black suits is huge, he makes sure he gives a fresh twist to every piece. Just like this one, where Karan layered the classic suit over a printed shirt, featuring loose ended string collars. Love it, ya!

Fabulous In Fur

While I ain’t a big fan of fur laden overcoats, Karan Johar’s love for grandeur looks the best in heavy fabrics and grand silhouettes. Only and only channelling his style A-game through luxury labels or perhaps his favourite one–Gucci, Karan’s monochrome fur jacket was flavoured with shiny red boots. What do you think of this look?

Studded Suits

Karan never fails to impress us with his choice of suits. Then be it joyful shades, clashing fabrics or OTT silhouettes, Karan aces ’em all. Just like this studded jacket by designer Dhruv Kapoor. Pairing the hint of green on his embellished jacket with Bottega Veneta’s latest love affair with the leaf shade, Karan dished out a fab lewk.

Roaring And How

While a tiger on a sherwani is not good for many style appetites, Karan Johar sure isn’t one amongst them. Wearing designer friend Manish Malhotra’s black sherwani that features a roaring tiger motif on the shoulder, Karan was dripping gold in this one.

Quirky Who?

Karan too believes in the idea of colour play, and this lewk serves as proof. Managing to make our mellow days look as bright as his yellow jacket, Karan styled designer Dhruv Kapoor’s highlighter yellow, oversized jacket with navy track pants, and added a funky smile tag to punctuate the look. It’s cute, we like it!

We’re Shook

Only if Halloween was around, this look would have won and how. Wearing label Loewe’s skeleton inspired jumper, featuring brushed off threads, Karan completed the look with subtle black pants, white soul shoes and sunglasses. Fashion can be scary too.

Twice The Sass

Karan opted for a two-textured pantsuit by label–Off-White for the press routine of his anthology film Ghost Stories. The tw0 patterned blazer featured plaid detail on one side and the pants, and Karan layered it over a white turtle neck. He further settled for a dainty neckpiece, and black-framed glasses.

Off-Duty But Never Off-Style

For his frequent airport visits and Sunday brunches, Karan Johar believes in being well-dressed. A perfect example of Karan’s style aesthetic which comes in balanced quantities of monogrammed prints, tonnes of layers, and every style recipe that a maximalist will approach, Karan is the king of mix-match. Karan, please lend us at least one of your LV accessories.
