‘Murder Mystery 2’ Trailer: These Two Indian Labels Dressed Jennifer Aniston And The Cast In Desi Looks
We love this desi girl!
As soon as the trailer of Murder Mystery 2 arrived on our screens, the first thing that any Indian noticed was Jennifer Aniston in a sparkling lehenga. The Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston-starrer sequel of the blockbuster film is officially arriving on March 31, this year. And the while everyone loved the trailer, most of us were just so excited to see not one but two Indian designer pieces on the film’s cast.

For a scene in the trailer, Jen and Adam arrive for the Maharaja’s wedding in Indian attires. For the significant sequence, Jennifer walks in a stunning silver lehenga in the trailer. Styled by costume designer–Debra McGuire who has previously worked with Aniston in the cult-favourite Friends, this sequel to the 2019 film features a gamut of traditional Indian attires, used to dress the attendees at the wedding. As the mystery of Maharaja’s abduction unveils in the film, the trailer provides a peek into the marvellous costumes worn by the cast. For the special scene in the film, Jen wore the Manish Malhotra lehenga, featuring a silver thread and crystal work, which she teamed with Indian jhumkas and a wrist accessory.

Besides Jen, her co-star–Adam is seen wearing a sherwani in the same shade of silver, which is teamed with white pants, and neckline and sleeves featuring golden work. What caught our attention was not only the marvellous desi moment by Jen but how brilliantly it doesn’t speak of India to Hollywood in tacky colours. The subtle undertone silhouette is a classic Manish Malhotra design that is a refreshing look a long time that Hollywood films have gifted us. With that, we hope the film, equally makes sure of cultural appreciation, unlike the last time when Carrie Bradshaw made a spectacular entry in a Falguni Shane Peacock Lehenga for the Sex And The City reboot show, but ruined it all by calling it a “saree.”

Apart from Jennifer, another big desi moment was delivered by French actress–Mélanie Laurent who joins the cast in the new sequel. For her role in the film, the actress is seen welcoming the leading pair of the film in a signature red attire by the Indian label–Papa Don’t Preach. The red kurta and pants on Mélanie feature the classic Papa Don’t Preach, colourful embroidery with bead and thread work. Well, that’s an additional reason for us to watch the film now. Right?

Many Indians also reacted to Jennifer Aniston’s lehenga and commented–”Can’t wait to see Jen in a lehenga.” In pictures shared by costume designer Debra, we spotted traditional Indian embroideries and colourful lehengas, and more of which we can only hope to watch in the film.

The costume design also has our hopes high for finally watching a true representation of Indian clothing, that is not seen through the lens of NRI fashion.
