Global events always have a few unexpected moments on the red carpet which divert the public’s attention to the serious issues of the world. Like, this year the famous Cannes film festival made headlines for various reasons like red carpet looks, celebrity appearances and screenings, However, this stage was also used by some celebs to voice their opinions in support of their country’s internal matters. Iranian model Mahlagha Jaberi used her outfit to speak a thousand words against the innumerable executions in Iran.

It is very shocking that Iran has one of the highest rates of executions in the world. The country pronounces execution for drug-related offences, homosexuality, prostitution, kidnapping and more. Mahlagha Jaberi raised her voice against Iran’s capital punishment in the form of her outfit. She wore a black bodycon dress with a noose-styled neckline. Her dress has a brown coloured rope attached to the black dress, and it was designed by Jila Saber. Jaberi’s dress had a decent length train, with “Stop Executions” written on it.

Mahlagha Jaberi also posted a video in the dress with the caption, “Dedicated to the people of Iran.” Even the video highlighted her demand to stop executions in Iran.

During one of the Cannes days, a woman also made her way to the red carpet and showed her support for Ukraine. She was dressed in a Ukrainian flag and poured blood on herself on the prestigious stairs of the red carpet. Even last year at Cannes, a woman painted in the colours of the Ukrainian flag walked naked on the red carpet with “Stop Raping Us” written on her body. Activists have also protested against domestic violence during this global event that celebrates films.
