From Hailey Bieber To Alia Bhatt, 6 Celebs Who Let Cheeky Slogan T-Shirts Speak Their Mind

Slogan t-shirts have been fashion’s way of communicating. Ever since the 1960s, slogan t-shirts have often revisited the runways through thought-provoking collections. A flag bearer of this style was late designer/activist Vivienne Westwood, who contributed to the rising fame of the style. Later, as the category grew and helped people put their minds on their clothes, many also used it as a tool to make political statements, make a remark on popular debates, raise awareness, or just put a sassy quote out there. Besides its popularity in American fashion, Bollywood also tried, tested and relished the idea of a slogan t-shirt, ever since it arrived on the runways of Dior in the 2017 show. Soon, t-shirts by the designer house saying–“We Should All Be Feminists,” became a staple pick for every celebrity.

While thoughts, and opinions changed over time, the idea of a slogan t-shirt remained to grow as a strong medium of communicative fashion. Many instances in the past and recent present have carved a spot in the history of pop culture, with celebrities speaking their mind through a basic t-shirt. Here we are revisiting some of our favourite moments!

Hailey Bieber On The Nepotism Debate

The latest example of celebrities and their love for slogan t-shirts was American model and Justin Bieber’s wife–Hailey’s comment on the entire nepotism discourse, through a plain white tee. As Bieber made an appearance for paparazzi, the internet spotted her “Nepo Baby” crop-top speaking her mind. With text squeezed into the smallest font, she used fashion to give her two bits on the issue, and styled it with low-rise denim jeans. And oh boy, the internet went on to obsess over her sassy way of owning the “Nepo Baby” tag. Making comparisons between Hollywood and Bollywood were also netizens, who suggested celebrities from Indian cinema also take the same approach, and own their privilege. We think it is about time, they do it.

Uorfi Javed Is Always Speaking Her Mind

Walking along the lines of Hailey Bieber, was Uorfi Javed, who took a similar route to speak her mind. As someone who is open about her views on politics, controversies and trolls, the actress was clicked by the paparazzi today, wearing a similar white t-shirt, as seen on Hailey, with a minor change. Tweaking the slogan for herself, Ms Javed’s t-shirt read, “Not a Nepo Baby” which also found attention from fans.

Previously, she used a similar technique to tell the world that she is “Not Javed Akhtar’s Granddaughter.” While entering an airport, Ms Javed gave a clear response to the rumours that linked her to legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar, because of her last name. Without saying or tweeting a word, the actress chose to let her t-shirt speak and cleared the air around the news.

Rhea Chakraborty Smashing The Patriarchy

Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case was under massive media coverage, and so was every person related to him. The actor’s death also brought his girlfriend–Rhea Chakraborty to the media’s radar. During the entire investigation, the actress was constantly stalked by the paparazzi while entering and leaving the NCB office for interrogation. While Rhea chose to zip up on the case, the actress used fashion and of course the unwanted media attention to deliver a message. Amidst all the claims that called her a “gold digger,” and accused her of the actor’s death, the actress spoke her mind with a black, oversized t-shirt that said, “Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue, Let’s Smash The Patriarchy, Me And You.” And while the actress was continually accused and called a “witch” throughout the entire investigation, many other celebrities and Rhea’s friends from the fraternity applauded her, and used the slogan as a message over their Instagram handle.

Alia Bhatt On Feminism And More

During Bollywood’s woke era, actress Alia Bhatt chose to wear her views on feminism through a t-shirt. The actress who always binds a message through her sartorial picks, had the internet talking about her Gaurav Gupta, designer t-shirt at an event in 2017. For the launch of her app, the actress sported a white t-shirt with a printed sleeve, that said–”F For Feminism.” Later for the release of husband/actor Ranbir Kapoor’s film–Shamshera, the actress turned into his biggest cheerleader with a t-shirt by designer Dhruv Kapoor, that said–”Kapoor.” Even during the promotions Brahmastra she wore a custom-made gharara by the designer duo–Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, that announced–”Baby On Board,” and fans found Alia’s attention to detail very cute.

While many thought of it as a cool gesture of showcasing love, some others speculated the message by Hadid was a sly remark on ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas, who apparently started dressing like Zayn Malik. Ranveer Singh Has No F*CKS To Give
