Bold Breakout Styles From The FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week That We’d Love To Try, But Guts Anusaar!

Bold Breakout Styles From The FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week That We’d Love To Try, But Guts Anusaar!

The last week has been quite a ride for the world of fashion. Returning back to a full physical and on-ground fashion show, FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week turned host for the year’s biggest week of glam with a display of talented designer houses of India. While, everything from sustainability, inclusivity, individuality and loads of glimmer walked the ramp, one thing that failed to move away from my eyes was the line-up of new-age style trends, something that would need me truckloads of confidence to pull off. I mean being a fashion student and flipping through the glossy pages of fashion magazines has always played out to be a home for me, the air surrounding me at the fashion week seemed dreamy, shimmery and of course inspiring.

A Euphoria land as I would love to call the 5 day long line-up to be, I spotted a hundred Maddys and Cassies with some Jules walking on and off the runway at FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week. Flagging off some crazy chart bursting trends, cool and quirky accessories, flawless hair and OG classic designs, invitees at the fashion week, left no stone unturned to put their best foot forward. While I tried my best to pull off a glam game myself, amid the hundred running around sessions, I have decided to keep these styles available in my closet for my imaginary fashion week. (Something that happens quite frequently post a quick shower.) And listing down a few of my favourites, here are my top picks from the runway, backstage and around.

Craving for some Knit

Well, crochet has served right to the beauty bloggers and celebrities in recent times, and it’s time to amp up our closets with the granny knit turned hot crochet sets.  And a piece I spotted during the Shivan And Narresh showcase ,was the jacquard ruched bustier paired with a ruffle knit skirt. Dyed in the shades of mustard yellow and sweet pink, the scalloped bustier design is versatile and vibrant. A summer saviour look, oh yess!

Mani Rings

Manicure is getting a party update, and it’s time to dress your nails. A trend I spotted a few hours before the runway showcase, was on models walking for the Outhouse showcase wearing glitter laden mani rings. A staple Beyoncé bling element, mani rings by Outhouse jewellery displayed a multitude of crystals, with the label’s logo embedded at its core. Trying to be an experimenter with this one, I am obsessed and rushing to get a set for myself.

Colourful eyes

Winged eyeliner has ruled the makeup regime for many of us, but it’s time to go funky. A constant sighting during the fashion week would always deliver an image of colourful eyes. Pop coloured, citrus hued, pearl laden to neon painted, colourful eyes urge you to take the maximalist way and is best to let the eyes speak with masks on. With Maddy’s aashirwad, I am all up for the Y2K makeup experiments and would love to try my hands on some graphic liners, and face stickers.

Gloves Galore

Maano ya na maano, gloves are the breakout accessories of the year and I don’t care if it’s hot in summer, but gloves have surely made a place in my dream closet. Something I spotted in abundance during the week of glam, opera gloves have found a million new versions and all the fashun girls are hopping over this trend. From sheer net, wrinkled, frill-ended to coloured leather, invitees and designers churned out some unique glove pairings during the runway and I am loving the colour-block update.

Dazzling In Manish Malhotra’s Diffuse

While I ain’t a big fan of statement sequin dresses, this Manish Malhotra piece on Shanaya Kapoor for his latest showcase at FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week called for attention. A perfect style to hit revenge dressing, Shanaya’s side-cut, halter neckline straight fit gown from Manish Malhotra’s ‘Diffuse’ collection, infused a universe of dark hues mixed together for some glam. Something K3G’s Poo would opt for a cocktail party, a matching pair of flat sequin silver earrings offered a disco-upgrade to the look. This hands down has made it to my imaginary fashion week.

Draped Skirts

A favourite pick from the festive wear closet as displayed by designer Punit Balana, was the draped skirt paired with a backless choli. A perfect mix of contemporary and traditional design language, the set serves best in the heat of summer, and helps channel the Instagram born trend of scarf tops (but ethnic). Best when styled with a choker or statement earrings, backless, tasselled detailed cholis can be styled with sassy sarees, distressed denim and matchy-matchy funky potli bags.

Crescent Bags

The ‘It’ accessory of the season is here and I am loving it. While mini bags ruled the runway for many designers, crescent bags spelt a magic trick of their own. Edgy and goofy, my pick of crescent bags comes straight from designer Aarti Vijay Gupta’s ‘Summer Resort 22-23’ collection. Replete with Aarti’s signature print design that took the shape of animals, the pieces were filled with intricately designed flora and fauna. Picking the right shades of citrus lemon, and monochromes, the crescent moon bags had a distinct outlined feature, which added a character to every piece and is definitely a holiday wear pick for me.

Dad Floaters And Easy Sliders

Comfy and uber cool, dad floaters and colourful sliders paired with crisp pantsuits delivered youthful energy during the Two Point Two showcase. In a world where footwear is gearing up for a distinct style identity, Manolo Blahnik and Birkenstock’s all-new range of be-jewelled sliders made more sense to me now. Often used as a tool for some colour play, off-beat socks worn beneath two-strap sliders are no more awkward or bizarre and dare anyone tell me they don’t look cool. Finally a style, I can comfortably wear and proudly say is the ‘It’ trend, sliders are replacing killer heels and Imma loving it.

Tech Accessories

A glimpse of fashion’s near future, boAt X Huemn’s latest line-up for FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week, made me fall in love with ‘oh-so-cool’ wireless headsets and on-the-go speakers. With the arrival of wired earphones, pulled off by Bella Hadid on the streets, we were sure tech-accessory had a returned with a new face and now walking the runway, were boAt’s sprightful designs. Unconventional, and Gen-Z approved, I never imagined using my headsets as a style statement and post the runway showcase, it is all I wanna try out for myself.
