Designer Dhruv Kapoor Scripts History With His Debut Showcase At Milan Fashion Week Men’s SS’23

Milan Fashion Week, Men’s SS’23 has returned to the land of love–Paris, with designer labels welcoming this season with a mix of muted hues and colourful hemlines. Starting from June 21 to June 26, the season features a roster of more than 80 fashion houses, streamlined into 44 shows. While every designer house has found its stake in the season’s trends, what’s interesting about this line-up, is that it holds a spot for an Indian designer.

Marking his debut at the Milan Fashion Week, designer Dhruv Kapoor scripted history by being the first Indian designer to showcase his designs. Paving his way to the global platform, Dhruv staged the distinct aesthetic of his eight-year-old brand, via a line-up of his latest menswear collection. Dabbing a mix of minimal nuance, infused into his choice of textile, which also in many ways represents India, Dhruv painted crisp silhouettes, with his signature statement motifs, and his last name ‘Kapoor’ written in devnagri. While I have been a fan of Dhruv’s idea of patchwork designs, and daring silhouettes, this latest showcase also welcomes men into a room full of experiments. His choice of colours varies from blush and soft pinks to soph. blues, with interesting drawstrings, printed vests and belt bags, catching our attention at first.

According to the designer’s latest post, ‘The Seeker’ collection manifests “man as a future explorer, ready to embark on a mental expedition in multiple configurations.” The collection incorporates a range of Bermuda shorts, printed coats, dipped into a variety of Mary Quant flowers, old-school denim, cross-body bags, bucket hats and more. Close to 40% of the entire range was upycled, which deals with sustainable and mindful production.

While Dhruv’s latest collection, doesn’t go any further from his creative pulse, it in many ways is refreshing. And to watch an Indian label walk the runway, amongst the key players in the business, reflects the exciting times for menswear in even Indian markets.
