From Sara Ali Khan’s Lehenga To Natalie Portman’s Dior, Celebs In Bridal Couture At Cannes’23
Din shagana da feels at Cannes!

At the 76th Cannes Film Festival, celebrities from across the globe walked their way into our hearts, in great fashion. From Bollywood celebrities like Sara Ali Khan, and Mrunal Thakur to our Hollywood divas like Natalie Portman, everyone painted the prestigious event white in bridal couture. In attendance were vintage designs, great Indian couture, and everything that you’d wanna wear to a shaadi. This confirmed that bridal couture was the biggest trend at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Here’s who made this trend the biggest style statement at Cannes 2023.
1. Sara Ali Khan
Seeking inspiration from India’s rooted heritage and treasured embroideries, Khan made her impactful debut at Cannes 2023, wearing Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Like the Pataudi daughter, the actress wore a mesmerising white lehenga by the Indian couturiers and walked the carpet. A part of her ensemble was this exquisite hand-embroidered multi-panel skirt, featuring chikankari or shadow work, and a veil that followed her on the carpet. The lehenga brought India’s historical fashion to the world stage and paid homage to the country’s finest craftsmanship.

2. Rawdah Mohamed
Just yesterday, Norwegian-Somali model/influencer wore the best look at Cannes so far. A nod to the trend, Mohamed walked the red carpet wearing Robert Wun’s popular Scorched Bride outfit. The double-sided satin and silk blouse with a mesh lining featured an unconventional burnt effect on the fabric, offering asymmetrical/tattered hemlines. Adding to the look was a silk organza veil with similar burnt holes. Rawdah sported the look to make a statement in the category of bridal couture.

3. Mrunal Thakur
Another Bollywood heroine was one of the finest, well-dressed stars on the Cannes red carpet this year. Thakur, marked her debut at the prestigious event, with designers Falguni Shane Peacock. Her first few looks in a saree described the majestic embroideries of her homeland and a sparkling statement made by the signature FSP feathers. The blush lilac and lavender saree on Thakur was given an innovative touch with a double-sided pallu, and couture feel provided through a gown-like finish.

4. Diipa Büller-Khosla
Global influencer Diipa Büller-Khosla was another well-dressed attendee at the film festival, wearing a unique lehenga design to the red carpet. Diipa’s innovative approach to styling a lehenga delivered a Desi-mermaid aesthetic designed by the Indian label Eeksha. Ornate embroidery, with a blend between ivory and lavender, curated this stunning lehenga skirt and blouse on Diipa, with a long trailing dupatta, fixed with a brooch. Here, Büller-Khosla brought the creativity of an Indian designer to the forefront and gave bridal wear a unique twist.

Digital content creator Dolly Singh made her spectacular debut at Cannes, wearing two unique ensembles by Indian designers. While walking the red carpet, Singh made sure to greet the media with a “Namaste” and wear Indian fashion favourites like the saree and lehenga. In two looks by designers Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, and Tarun Tahiliani, Singh gave an unconventional spin on the India-born silhouettes with jewellery pieces and pearl trims. Like most Indian celebrities, bridal couture made the memo for her.

6. Natalie Portman
The Israeli-American star made a head-turning choice in a vintage Dior gown. Arriving at the May December premiere, Portman wore a strapless, petal-shaped gown, inspired by the famous Junon dress, designed by the legendary Christian Dior. The recreated version of the gown on Natalie paid homage to the original design and was an exemplary specimen of couture, that the design house is known for.
