Cannes or Haldi Ceremony? We’re Not Feeling Aditi Rao Hydari And Surveen Chawla’s Yellow Looks!
No more yellows please!
Last night, two big celebrity looks from the Cannes Film Festival dropped on our screens and had us wondering if these stars attended a haldi ceremony in the French city. Soaked in yellow, actresses Aditi Rao Hydari and Surveen Chawla made an appearance at the film festival, wearing two distinct shades of yellow. First up in a lemon yellow lehenga was actress Surveen Chawla, who made her debut at Cannes 2023 in an Indian ensemble.

The intricate Chikankari lehenga on Chawla was a creation by Indian designer Seema Gujral and featured a European style aesthetic through bellowing sleeves and a long train. Styled by Sukriti Grover, Chawla’s outfit for her debut incorporated a lehenga, a designer blouse with two-strap detailing, and detachable puff sleeves. Chawla completed the look with a sheer dupatta in the same shade, and diamond jewellery. In terms of accessories, she added a bunch of neckpieces with a designer, leaf-motif haathphool, to give her Cannes look an Indian update.

And while the lehenga was a truly perfect pick to pose against the clear skies, we’re still unsure if it was a perfect pick to make an appearance at Cannes. Forget the ballroom gowns, we liked how Surveen decided to go with an Indian label, but wearing a yellow lehenga to Cannes, makes her a guest at a big fat Indian wedding, and maybe an experimental couture lehenga would’ve been a better option.

Besides Surveen, another actress from Bollywood made her big red carpet appearance wearing a marigold gown. Actress Aditi Rao Hydari arrived for the film festival, in association with L’Oréal. Rao Hydari’s pick for the special evening was loaned from the shelves of designer Michael Cinco. The sequin-loaded design, featured a strapless neckline, with a flounce replicating the petals of a flower. The shapeless silhouette was further enhanced with tonal sequin embellishments and a colour we regret Hydari picked.

Styling the look further, Rao Hydari added a pair of solid, enamel earpieces and experimented with subtle smokey eyes. Her coffee brown tresses found a match in a berry-coloured lip shade, while her heels spoke in the language of colours like green, yellow and pink. Definitely not a design we were hoping for from Rao Hydari, after she delivered her first look at Cannes, wearing a majestic blue Oscar De La Renta gown.
This has us wondering if Cannes hosted a haldi ceremony last night.
