Aishwarya Rai is back at her favourite place–Cannes Film Festival and her look for this year is all parts bizarre. The star, made her first appearance on the red carpet, wearing Sophie Couture. Embellished with lightweight aluminium details, teamed with a fitted black corset, and crystals, the piece from Sophie’s Cannes Capsule Collection was a risqué choice made by Rai.

The actress walked the red carpet in this voluminous gown, featuring a massive hood, a structured flounce and a massive black bow. The long trailing detail was further enhanced with crystal-soaked fabric, that followed Rai as she walked. Styling the look, Rai teamed the long with fabulous makeup glam, straight hair and her signature bold red lips.

While Rai on the Cannes red carpet is known for surprising the internet with statement designs, this one was sure a disappointing look on her. The chaotic volume on her head, bow and flounce, allowed a tiny space for Rai herself to shine. Welcoming a gamut of memes, the textured details and the size of the couture looked more like a gimmick and less of fashion.

Many people on the internet expressed their shock at the look, and openly called it “disastrous.” I mean, it is her glam that saved this bizarre outfit. And while Aishwarya is known to pull off even a paper bag, we think the gown failed to match her pizzazz and personal style. Whoever styled her needs to be fired right away, please.
