‘Yeh Ladki Pagal Hai’ Episode 14: Erica Fernandez Holds Audience Accountable For Choosing One Body Type Over Another

The society we live in has somehow normalised not only commenting about someone’s body but also shaming them for the same. And women can’t seem to win with anyone as they are shamed for being fat along with being shamed for being too skinny. So there is apparently nothing right out bodies can do. On episode 14 of Yeh Ladki Pagal Hai, actress Erica Fernandez came with a lot of craziness along with some truth bombs. The Kasautii Zindagii Kay actress discussed when she was skinny-shamed and had to add padding to appear fuller. However, her perspective on her experience involves holding the audience accountable and she has definitely given us some food for thought.

Erica Fernandez spoke about her experience with being extremely skinny and how she had to be padded up to appear fuller. She described her past self as “skin on bones”. When confused kudi Pavni Mehrotra asked if she was ever asked to eat more and Erica said that people still say that she needs to gain weight. Pavni then said that people shame her about her body too and questioned why this is done as it makes one hate their body. Erica agreed with her feelings but then gave a different perspective on the situation.

Erica said that people within the industry can’t be completely blamed for preferring a particular body type over the other. She said that they don’t have a choice either as they have an audience with the same preference and they people within the industry are expected to cater to the audience’s expectations and preferences.

To be fair, Erica Fernandez isn’t wrong. At the end of the day, we are the one consuming the media and content being put out. If the audience is the one who actively chooses to favour one body type over another, then the people within the industry are also going to do the same. Unless we don’t start showing more inclusivity, there won’t be any in the entertainment industry either.
