Yash On Ramayana
During an interview with Suma Kanakala, Yash said that his children grew up listening to the tales of Ramayana from his grandparents. This made playing Ravana, the antagonist, complicated for his son, since who would he support? He said that his son asked him why he wasn’t playing Rama to which he replied saying that he was Rama in real life. Yash explained to his son how cinema and acting work after that. This explanation further prompted another question: “Who do I root for?” Yash explained that it was a complicated question and that even his fans were wondering why he was playing Ravana, since he was not like that at all.
He explained to his child that while Ravana may appear glamorous, powerful and larger-than-life, the story ultimately teaches audiences to follow the values represented by Lord Rama. At the same time, he said viewers can still root for his character within the film without taking it personally. Yatharva then asked the actor if his character dies or loses in the story, to which he reassured that he was just playing it and that it was separate from reality.
