Amid Ongoing North-South Cinema Debate, Yami Gautam Says ‘Industry Needs To Evolve’ In Terms Of Movies

There has been an ongoing debate among the audience and even the industry regarding which part of India makes the better films – the north or the south. The debate picked up pace after consecutive films from the south like RRR, Pushpa and KGF 2 received immense success and appreciation not just in the country but abroad as well. This caused the audience to turn toward south-made films and the Hindi film industry also took a mild hit. Movie-goers began treating this as a divide and picking sides as to which film industry is better. Recently, Yami Gautam has shared her thoughts on this ongoing debate and offered her point of view on these arguments.

Yami Gautam’s Thoughts On North-South Debate

Speaking to India Today, the A Thursday actress said that as a creative person, one cannot think like that. She also recalled that her first film was in the Kannada language and the second one was in the Telugu language. It was after these two films that she landed a role in Vicky Donor which marked her Bollywood debut. Yami Gautam said that she did not feel there was a major difference in working on these films except for the language.

The 33-year-old actress further said that this is a difficult time for the Hindi film industry and therefore, it is important to provide the audience with a change in terms of cinematic projects. She elaborated that there needs to be a change in the structure like better stories and visuals and also that the audience should be respected for their choices and the industry needs to evolve accordingly. Yami further added that this divide has been created because of the emergence of OTT platforms and the audience is waiting for an ‘eventful’ film so that they can go to the theatres to watch it.
