Multiple X (Previously Twitter) users started sharing pictures of Anushka Sharma from her recent appearance at Lord’s Stadium. Their captions included questions like, “Is she pregnant?” “Is baby no. 3 on the way?” and much more. And while these questions are invasive, they are also deeply disturbing. A woman casually sitting and enjoying a match should not be subjected to such rumours. She is the mother of two kids, and her body is allowed to change; while men like these easily bring up pregnancy questions as soon as they see a woman without a flat stomach, we would love to see their faces as well.

And it was not just these indirect questions that made us uncomfortable; one user labelled Sharma as “fat” online, and the unawareness is showing. Calling someone fat on a platform does not say anything about them but much about you as a person. Such accounts must be called out for the things they just casually write and go back to their ordinary lives. Bullying women for their looks has been an age-old habit and has just gotten easier with the help of social media. Asking someone if they are pregnant just because they look different or bloated is the kind of disrespect that should not deserve our attention.
