Who Is Tukaram Mundhe?
Tukaram Mundhe, who was born on June 3, 1975, hails from Tadsonna village in Beed district. Born into a farming family, he divided his time between attending a Zilla Parishad school and helping his family with fieldwork. After finishing school, Tukaram Mundhe enrolled in Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, after which he took the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2004 and passed with an all-India rank of 20. The following year, he joined the IAS. But one of the defining chapters of his 21-year career came years later, when he was appointed Solapur’s District Collector. Tukaram Mundhe help solve with the water crisis with the “Jalyukt Shivar” programme, making several villages tanker-free. This earned him the title “Water Man of Maharashtra”. When he became the Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, he helped crack down on illegal construction, improved property-tax collection, and conducted early morning “Walk with Commissioner” inspections to see civic issues firsthand.

Tukaram Mundhe Vs Eateries/ Manufacturers
After Tukaram Mundhe took over as the FDA Commissioner, he started dominating headlines. Famous eateries including K Rustom & Co, Shalimar Restaurant, Noor Mohammadi Hotel, the Cricket Club of Indians, Willingdon Sports Club and Juhu Gymkhana have been temporarily shut down, or their licences have been suspended after his team found hygiene issues that included pest infestation, improper storage practices, poor sanitation and more. Additionally, on August 12, the FDA reportedly inspected 434 Ayurvedic drug manufacturers across the state and found several safety violations. While 135 units received show-cause notices, 10 had their licences permanently cancelled over serious lapses, including poor hygiene, missing equipment and more.
