Vashu Bhagnani Slaps Rs 400 Crore Lawsuit On David Dhawan, Tips Over ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ Remix. More Inside

In a recent turn of events, producer Vashu Bhagnani’s Puja Entertainment has slapped Ramesh Taurani’s Tips with a Rs 400 crore lawsuit. He has also sued Ramesh, Kumar S Taurani, and filmmaker David Dhawan. The lawsuit accuses them of “exploiting” the 90s song called ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ from Bhagnani’s 1999 film Biwi No. 1 in Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.

Vashu Bhagnani Sues Tips, David Dhawan Over ‘Chunnari Chunnari’

The suit asks for an injunction restraining the distribution, exhibition, release, streaming, or any other exploitation of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and also its promotional materials featuring the two disputed songs, ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ and ‘Ishq Son Hai.’ Bhagnani’s lawyer told ANI that the rights of the musicians were “not ready to settle.” Previously, films were governed through contracts, and those agreements with Tips only permitted audio rights. Tips further approached them for visual rights, and even after Bhagnani’s response, the matter was not solved.

The lawyer also stated that a notice was sent by Puja Entertainment to cancel the previously granted audio rights, meaning they could not use those songs in the film. He further asked them to show their documents if they were the rightful owners. For the unversed, the upcoming film by David Dhawan, named Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, has two 90s songs from Biwi No.1, produced by Puja Entertainment. This includes the film’s title, which has ‘Ishq Sona Hai,’ leading to Bhagnani asking Dhawan for a title change and an additional Rs 100 crores in damages if he and Tips fail to agree with the demands.
