Urvashi Dholakia Reveals Ekta Kapoor Said That Komolika’s Role Will Be The “Next Sex Bomb” On Television. Erm, What?

Can we ever get forget the iconic character of Komolika from Kasautii Zindagi Kay? Also, we cannot see anyone else apart from Urvashi Dholakia doing justice to the role of Komolika, can we? Urvashi returned to the small screen with Naagin 6 but according to her, Komolika’s image never really left her. Komolika’s character was a trendsetter in terms of her style. I guess no other vamp character has ever received so much love and fan following as that of Komolika’s. In a recent interview, Urvashi Dholakia revealed quite some shocking details of what the producer Ekta Kapoor told her before signing her for the role of Komolika in Kasautii Zindagi Kay, and honestly, something is really wrong with the statement.

In the interview, Urvashi Dholakia said that producer Ekta Kapoor called her the “next sex bomb on TV” while giving her the role. However, Urvashi just laughed it off and further said that she did not really think anything because all she wanted to do was work. Urvashi further added that all she was thinking during that time was that she had responsibilities to fulfil and wanted to do good work. Urvashi also said that Komolika’s character has remained as her image to date.

Maybe the actress did not find Ekta Kapoor’s statement problematic, nevertheless, it has quite a few layers to it, if you think! The fact that the whole point of the Komolika character was to just be sexually appealing to the audience, is unjust to Urvashi’s efforts as an actor. On hearing this statement, one question that strikes me is when a serial whose audience concentration was limited to the females, was Komolika’s character being used to attract the male viewers?
