Twinkle Khanna Gives The Idea Of Dressing Up For Halloween A Philosophical Twist, And Now We Need Answers!

It was Halloween last week, and I saw a lot of people on social media enjoying the spooky holiday. I vicariously lived through the spirit by watching other people dress up in funky outfits and go to parties! Seemed like they all had one, good for them! Normally, we only appreciate a person’s Halloween costume and don’t give much thought about what they must be feeling like dressed as a scary fictional character. But Twinkle Khanna’s latest post has put us into an existential crisis with her latest post. In the caption of the latest post, Twinkle asked a very thought-provoking question about how the freedom to dress however they want empowers them or makes them pretend to be something they are not. Erm, yeh toh out of syllabus question ho gaya!

In her Instagram post, Twinkle Khanna shared a picture of her dressed as a witch for Halloween this year. She really understood the assignment! In the caption of the post, Khanna wrote that she loves dressing up as either ‘a character, a strange creature and my favourite, a powerful witch.’

Just when you think that Twinkle might talk more about her costume, she throws a googly question. She writes, “But in a story I am writing currently, the protagonist wonders – Does pretending to be someone else give you more freedom to be yourself or does it give you some respite from being yourself?” Umm, this question really made us think along these lines.

Do people dress to express themselves or do they dress to pretend to be someone else to escape from themselves? I would like to believe that dressing up, in general, empowers people. It makes them feel good about themselves and there’s a confident aura around them, too! But that does not mean that they are pretending to be someone else. Maybe dressing up brings out their other side that needs a little nudge to come out. Who knows? As long as people are enjoying themselves, all’s well na?
