The Male Feminist: Saiyami Kher Credits Her Mom And Dadi For Her Bindaas Attitude

Very few women are fortunate enough to be raised equally as boys are. It is rarer when the family only has daughters and no sons. If in this household daughters are raised like sons, it is truly progressive. In the latest of The Male Feminist, actress Saiyami Kher has spoken about her ‘bindaas‘ upbringing and how her passion for sports and entrepreneurship was encouraged by her parents.

In a conversation with the host of the show, Siddharth Aalambayan, Saiyami Kher talks in depth about her upbringing and how there was no discrimination between a man and a woman’s work at home. Saiyami said that her parents did not want to bring her and her sister up in Mumbai and therefore, they shifted to Nasik. Talking about the activities that she did there right from childhood, the Faadu actress said, “Bachpan toh mountains pe bitaaya hai, treks kiya hai, swimming in lakes normal si thi humare liye.”

The 30-year-old actress also revealed that she is very passionate about sports. Elaborating more on the same, Saiyami said, “School ke baad badminton kheliti thi. Toh four hours of badminton, then tuitions.” She also spoke about how she and her sister helped her parents in running their restaurants. Talking about it, Saiyami Kher said that her parents had three restaurants. One was run by her father, one by her mother and the other one by her sister and her, when they were just 12 and 10 years old respectively.

Saiyami, then, revealed that she got these traits from he mother and her grandmother. She also said that they were both very strong women who never made her feel that household chores are divided on the basis of gender. Furthermore, she also revealed that her mother would change the light bulbs in the house and this led her to question the portrayal of women and men in films.
