The Male Feminist: “Our Dad Cooking Was Normal For Us,” Mithila Palkar On Her Feminist Upbringing

Women from a very early age are told to be respectful of the other gender and learn to take up the responsibilities as expected by society. Something similar is what actress Mithila Palkar pointed out in an exclusive conversation with Hauterrfly. In the latest episode of The Male Feminist, Palkar spoke about the feminist household she grew up in. Talking about her upbringing, the actress delved deep into the idea of gender roles and how her dad cooking at home, instead of her mom was a normalised concept.

She mentioned, “My father loves to cook, almost to the extent that he would rather not have any of us around him in the kitchen. He is always like–you guys sit down, I will serve.” She further said that “Of course, for a different generation it’s like why is a man cooking? But for my sister and I, it was all okay, that yes, our dad cooks. And the fact that I don’t cook, definitely isn’t a bad thing. My father would love to stay with me and feed me. So, honestly, it was never a thing at the back of our heads. It was never a thing that girls work in the kitchen and men just don’t.”
