Exclusive: Madalsa Sharma On Playing Grey Character In Anupamaa: “It Was Like A Trendsetter…”

There has always been a lot of chatter about negative characters in Indian TV serials. Viewers often form strong opinions and misunderstand them. Recently, Madalsa Sharma, popularly known as Kavya Shah from Anupamaa and one of the most celebrated villains in the industry, opened up about this on Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan. Read on to know all about it.

In an exclusive interview, Madalsa Sharma opened up about her experience playing Kavya Shah in the superhit show Anupamaa. She said, “No, no. When I understood the character, I felt there was scope to do a lot. It was not negative. It was grey. And it was a new dimension. Yes. Kavya’s role is a different type of role. Because it’s typical. Like there’s a stereotype of negative grey shades in television. It was not like that. It was like a trendsetter kind of character. That is what I was getting a chance to play. So, I thought this was not negative. It’s grey. And it’s real.”

Further, she added, “Whenever I used to go out. Some people used to ask me, why are you doing this?’ Why are you doing this? Correct. But some people used to come and hug me. And used to say, ‘I want to be like you.’ Because I don’t want to sit at home and cry. I want to do something for myself in life. And doing something for yourself. And making your own path in life. Is not always negative. Doing things for yourself is not negative. Doing things for yourself and keeping yourself as the centre of your life. Is not negative. I think it’s absolutely empowering.”
