Vivek Agnihotri Calls Out Change In ‘The Kashmir Files’ IMDb Rating, Says It Is “Unusual And Unethical”

I believe that amongst all the amazing movies we have been getting recently one of the most underrated but slowly being appreciated is Vivek Agnihotri is The Kashmir Files. The plot of the movie revolves around 1990 and shows the plight of the Kashmiri pandits during the conflict that occurred. Critics and audiences alike have praised the movie and it is still continuously getting popular with the masses. The movie had initially received a 10 rating on IMDb. However, the rating of the movie has reduced after it detected unusual voting activity. Vivek Agnihotri is unhappy with these changes and has called them out.

Currently, with 1,35,000 votes The Kashmir Files stands at an 8.3 rating. The Kashmir Files’ IMDb rating page said that the mechanism has detected some unusual voting activity and in order to preserve the reliability of their rating system, alternate weighting calculations had been applied. Currently, about 95.3 per cent of the votes have given The Kashmir Files a 10-star rating while 3.5 % have given it 1 star.

The website further explained, “IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. The simplest way to explain it is that although we accept and consider all votes received by users, not all votes have the same impact (or ‘weight’) on the final rating. When unusual voting activity is detected, an alternate weighting calculation may be applied in order to preserve the reliability of our system. To ensure that our rating mechanism remains effective, we do not disclose the exact method used to generate the rating.”

However, this did not go well with Vivek Agnihotri as he took to Twitter and called this change unusual and unethical.

However, regardless of these ratings, The Kashmir Files has just continued to gain popularity as more and more people talk about it and has managed to rake in ₹ 27.15 crores on only its third day since the release.
