Swara Bhasker On Waiting List To Adopt A Child, Says, “I’ve Always Wanted A Family And Children”

I have always been a woman that preferred the concept of adoption over having my own biological children and hence grew up looking up to Sushmita Sen. And I have gotten a lot of discouragement for it too. While children are some of the purest and most innocent members of humanity, there is a lot of debate that goes on when you have to produce them. The compulsion to have kids, the compulsion to be married when you have them, is single parenting acceptable etc. I personally believe that it doesn’t really matter. If one is ready, willing and capable of being a parent, the child will grow up in a happy household. And Swara Bhasker seems to agree with this as she is already on a waiting list, all set to adopt a child.

Actress Swara Bhasker celebrated Diwali this year with girls at an orphanage in Delhi and has now registered as a potential adoptive parent at Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). She is now on the waitlist to adopt. According to reports, Swara had mentioned that she wanted to have a family and there were thousands of children in orphanages. She did her research about adoptions and also spoke to couples who have adopted.

She spoke to Mid-Day and said, “I’ve always wanted a family and children. I realised that adoption was a way to marry these things. Luckily in India, the State allows single women to adopt. I met many couples who have adopted children, met some children who were adopted and are now almost adults. I read up on the process and experience.”

And while the process of adoption might be long and emotionally tiring, Swara Bhaskar is grateful for all the help and support CARA employees have given her, They helped me understand the [details of the] process [and its requirements]. After all this research, I spoke to my parents, who eventually agreed and are now fully supportive of my decision.”

As a woman who personally would prefer adopting a child in the future, it is amazing to see women like Swara Bhaskar and Sushmita Sen pave the way in normalising adoptions. With her eagerness, I would like to believe that Swara would make an amazing mama!
