KK said that he and Jyoti were in grade 6 when he first started wooing her. When he figured out his feelings, he told her that he needed her to be his partner in life. He said that his wife now asks him not to sing at home and “bug her”. He teased her by saying that he has so many people who would love to hear him sing and girls that try to hold his hands at concerts. However, there were times when she likes to sit and hear him sing at home.

KK also recalled a time when Jyoti really supported him through a difficult phase. KK had his turning point with his first album, ‘Pal’ in 1999, shortly after moving to Mumbai. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, starring Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai, was also his first Bollywood hit. ‘Tadap Tadap’ was an instant hit for him. While discussing his reasons for moving to Mumbai he said that he was leading a very stagnant existence producing jingles and advertising. He said that he was married for 3 years at that point and his wife became the reason he moved to Bombay. KK further said that she pushed him to make decisions that he would not have made on his own. She assisted him in getting out of his bad state of mind, and she still does so. According to sources, the singer said, “It worked well for me that I got married before I settled down and she helped me in settling down.”
