Society’s obsession with a woman’s age and body has always been a point of conversation. Especially in the world of entertainment, where a woman’s personal space is brutally invaded by media, and fans, it isn’t always easy to maintain your cool. And when it comes to commenting on a woman’s age, health, and height, people seem to have no boundaries. I mean, I am no celebrity, but casual comments on my short height are an everyday affair. Talking about something similar is actress Shweta Tripathi. In the latest episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist with Siddhaarth Aalambayan, Shweta was asked if she ever was not taken seriously because of her physical appearance, which makes her look much younger than her actual age.

Talking about which, Shweta discussed the boons have being short heighted, and not looking her age, as she said, “I think it is a boon.” She mentioned, “especially for directors and creators, they think there is somebody in front of them who has the understanding of somebody older, and experienced but looks way younger.” She further laid down the challenges of it, and said, “All my characters, be it Golu, or Shikha from Kaali Kaali Ankhein, none of them have crossed 25, in terms of age.” She also said, “Be it my height or voice, I am five foot, and heroines you know have this separate aura. Some others would also say that my voice and physique do not match since I have a much mature, husky voice.”

Taking a dig at ageism in the film industry, Shweta also talked about the pros of looking much younger, and how it expands her lifespan as an actress in the business. Well, this surely is true, but we sincerely hope that actresses are no more at the mercy of their age to get great roles. And thankfully, with actresses like–Neena Gupta, the stereotypes attached to women post their fifties, and still working in the film industry, are slowly fading away.
