Shweta Tiwari is not one of those who will remain silent. The actress raised her voice against receiving online abuse. She talked about how a few Marathi people have been calling her out in a recent Instagram story. Shweta also mentioned whether political leader Raj Thackeray would approve this behaviour. This comes after she garnered headlines for tagging FDA head Tukaram Mundhe upon reportedly finding a cockroach in her online order.
Shweta Tiwari Raises Voice Against Online Abuse
Shweta Tiwari took to her Instagram story and pointed out how calling a woman “R***i” these days has become common on social media. She penned that any man from any background can come online and call a woman “r***i”. Shweta was shocked to find out that these men are not necessarily uneducated or from troubled backgrounds, adding that many of them are educated, seemingly come from respectable families, have wives, mothers, daughters and sisters. However, they feel completely comfortable using the most degrading word they can think of for another woman. Shweta didn’t hesitate to attach screenshots of the people whom she accused of sending abusive messages to her online. She recalled thinking, how can they go home to their family after speaking to another woman like this? She pointed out that a user was apparently also a supporter of Raj Thackeray or his party.
Shweta Tiwari Talks About Growing Up In Maharashtra
Shweta Tiwari revealed that she has lived in Maharashtra all her life, adding that her father was brought up in Mumbai. She expressed that all her life she has grown up seeing the pride and dignity attached to being a “Marathi maanus”. Shweta grew up believing that Marathi culture respected women, their strength and their dignity. The actress wrote that when she saw people who proudly identify as Marathi coming into women’s DMs and calling them “r***i”, she truly had to ask if this is what being a “Marathi maanus” has come to mean. Mentioning Raj Thackeray, Shweta wrote that if people like these are his supporters, then she would like to know if he thinks this is acceptable behaviour because speaking Marathi, calling yourself a Marathi or claiming to love Maharashtra is not enough. She further stated that a woman doesn’t lose her dignity just because one doesn’t know her, adding that she certainly doesn’t deserve to be called “r***i” simply because one disagrees, dislikes or feels entitled to abuse her. She asked people to respect women, not only the ones that they love but all women.
Shweta Tiwari happens to be one of many women who have been facing brutal trolls online. It’s high time strict and immediate action is taken against such abusive individuals.
