Did You Know Shah Rukh Khan Improvised His Dialogue In This DDLJ Scene?

The 1995 romance drama film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) is one of the most iconic films in the history of Indian cinema. Directed by Aditya Chopra, the Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer film explores the nuances of true love, acceptance, and respect for traditions. And the King of romance won over the viewers with his work in this film but did you know that SRK actually improvised his dialogue in one of the most iconic scenes of the film?

Remember the scene where Raj and Simran are parting ways after a month-long vacation in Europe. The lovebirds are at the London Railway Station where Simran thanks Raj for his help and the happy times and just as she turns to walk away, she remembers that she has forgotten to ask Raj for his address. She turns around and asks him for his address so she can send him her wedding invitation and asks if he will come while being blissfully unaware of his feelings. And there’s no way we can forget Raj’s response and his watery eyes full of pain and love.

Originally Aditya Chopra wanted Shah Rukh Khan to put on a hesitant smile and agree to attend Simran’s wedding despite having no intentions of actually doing it. However, the actor decided to shake his head and smile at Simran and say, “Nahi, main nahi aaunga” before walking away. To add to it, the opening music of ‘Naa Jaane Mere Dil Ko Kya Ho Gaya’ playing in the background adds so much intensity to the iconic scene. Brilliantly done, SRK! The emotion of the moment would have been lost without his fantastic improvisation.

Taking to Twitter, an internet user revealed how SRK improvised his dialogue in this scene and Aditya Chopra was overjoyed by it. In fact, the director asked the actor how he came up with the idea and Shah Rukh Khan explained that Raj loves Simran too much to hide what he feels and pretend.

It’s no surprise that this dialogue is the actor’s favourite dialogue from DDLJ.
