Just days ago, Suniel Shetty opened up about how he eats fewer tomatoes as the rate of the fruit has risen to about Rs 150-200 per kilo. The actor spoke about how the skyrocketing rate of tomatoes has affected his kitchen as well. And earlier today, we came across a video of Sara Ali Khan shopping in the streets of Bandra. During the IIFA 2023 award show, the actress spoke about how she’s stingy and didn’t want to spend money on international roaming and took hotspot from her hairdresser to browse the internet. Now, I’m sure many people love how “relatable” these stars are but IMHO, this is just another way for them to hog the limelight and remain relevant by trying to be relatable but they’re not!
Allow me to explain. If media reports are to be believed, Suniel Shetty has a net worth of roughly Rs 125 crores. For a man with that kind of net worth to say that he has been eating fewer tomatoes because of its rising rates is nothing short of a joke. In a country where 1 out of 3 people come from middle-class households and 10.2% of the total population lives below the poverty line, it is shocking that a man who lives in luxury is mocking people who are struggling to survive with the increasing inflation in the country. FYI, Suniel Shetty who is cutting down his consumption of tomatoes worth Rs. 150-200 per kg is currently in Bengaluru and guess what? He’s staying at Hotel Taj West Ends.

On the other hand, Sara Ali Khan, the Pataudi Princess has time and again told us how she’s stingy AF and does everything possible to save money. And as much as we like that, there’s no doubt that her street shopping trip to Bandra was nothing but a cheap PR stunt. No, middle-class people do not relate to you, Sara! From stealing a pillow from an airport lounge to taking hotspot from her hairdresser, we’ve all heard how “relatable” and “middle-class” Sara Ali Khan is. But her net worth currently is Rs 41 crores.
Did you know Sara once scolded her mom for buying a towel worth Rs 1600? But guess what? The actress owns a huge luxury bag collection including a Bottega Veneta bag worth Rs 6 lakhs, a Diro bag worth 70K, and a Louis Vuitton bag worth Rs 2.8 lakhs. Erm, so 1600 for a towel is expensive but 6 lakhs for a bag isn’t? How very middle-class of you, Sara! Before I conclude, allow me to also remind you that while the Zara Hatke Zara Bachke actress did not want to spend Rs 400 for international roaming, she didn’t mind spending so much more on a hairdresser.

This may seem like a hateful story to many of you but these are just facts. We all love celebs and they are the ones who make us all aspirational. One look at Radhika Madan, Ananya Panday and other celebs in an H&M x Mugler collection had many of us (including me) investing in the collection. We aspire to own expensive things and have a lifestyle like these celebs and in no way do we relate to them. In shameful for them to fake things and pull PR stunts to create a reliability factor. IMHO, it’s also unnecessary. More importantly, these celebs do not and cannot understand the problems of middle-class people. They never have and never will.
We still get a star like Vicky Kaushal being stingy as he is someone who grew up in a chawl. He’s not someone who comes from old money like Sara Ali Khan.
