In the latest update related to the case of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide, a court in Mumbai has allowed Rhea Chakraborty’s bank accounts to be unfrozen. In case you don’t know, the actress’ bank accounts were frozen by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) amid the investigation of the said matter in 2020. It’s worth noting that some of the accounts were unfrozen in 2021; Rhea and her family had appealed to the court for the same with the rest of the accounts.
Rhea Chakraborty’s Accounts Allowed To Be Defrozen
According to the media reports, the plea filed by Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Ayaz Khan and Zehra Charania, talked about the accounts that were held jointly by her family members. They argued that the NCB has not followed through on the provisions of 68F of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which made the continued freezing of the said accounts unlawful. The section talks about the procedure for freezing or seizure of assets that are suspected to be related to drug trafficking and requires that this action be confirmed by a competent authority within a stipulated timeline.
Her lawyer reportedly told the court that this requirement had not been fulfilled when it came to four of her bank accounts. However, NCB stated that Rhea was allegedly linked with a drug network, based on the statement recorded during the probe, adding that she had been in contact with peddlers, which, according to them, was the reason for freezing her accounts.

What Did Judge Say?
As per the report, Judge UC Deshmukh stated that the legal procedure under the NDPS Act was not adhered to. The court mentioned that any such freezing order should be confirmed within 20 days for it to remain valid. The judge reportedly mentioned, “The NCB does not deny that there is no compliance of Sub-section (2) of Section 68F of the Act. There is no order as contemplated to be passed under such provisions of Act.” They also said, “Therefore, in view of the observations of the Hon’ble High Court in Jatinder (supra) and provisions of Section 68F of the Act, the application is liable to be allowed.” After this, Rhea Chakraborty’s bank accounts were allowed to be unfrozen.
