Raveena Tandon Compares South Indian Cinema To Bollywood, Says “There Was A Lot Of Aping The West”
I have always been a fan of regional cinema and enjoy watching cultural interpretations and stories through them. And while I understand how sometimes over the top and extra South Indian cinema can get, I was never able to understand the hate that the South Indian film industry got. And I do believe that the South Indian movies are arguably doing better than Bollywood movies and Raveena Tandon seems to agree with me.

After working in quite a few South Indian movies and now also being one of the most celebrated parts of KGF: Chapter II, Raveena has a few insights into the comparison between South Indian cinema and Bollywood. She claims that in the 90s people would copy the west. She said Bollywood wanted to be all westernised with choppers. Raveena felt that Bollywood was losing touch with Indian culture. However, she observed that the South was more in touch with their culture and traditions on which the stories were based on. Raveena says that this is what the masses would identify with and the movies would become “super-duper hits.”

Raveena said that she believes that this touch with Indian culture and that Bollywood is going away from what the masses identify with. “Even though KGF 1 and 2 may be portrayed as an action movie, until and unless you don’t have emotions that are holding people’s hearts, I don’t think any movie can be a success. When your emotions are surface-level, it doesn’t work,” Raveena Tandon said according to sources.
