Social media always looks for opportunities to shame a woman over her looks, her opinions, her work and everything she does or doesn’t do. Similarly, this year, the talented and gorgeous Aishwarya Rai yet again became the subject of social media trolling over her Cannes red carpet appearance. The actor has always been unbothered with such comments, and recently, Raveena Tandon came out in support of Aishwarya to bash such social media self-approved critics spreading toxicity. Read on.
What Did Raveena Tandon Say?
Raveena Tandon has always been known for being outspoken, and she yet again stood strong by colleague Aishwarya Rai’s side. In a statement to PTI, Raveena Tandon called such trolling “unfair and unfortunate.” She further stated the social media’s ‘hyper-fixation’ on a woman’s ageing process, her clothing choices and her weight, and she called it a toxic trait of the digital media culture.
Raveena Tandon hailed Aishwarya Rai as the ‘global icon’ who has represented the country with dignity and pride on various international platforms. She expressed her extreme disappointment with people who put down such a talented and intelligent woman by judging her based on camera angles and wardrobe choices. Raveena Tandon also pointed out the double standards of the society and unrealistic beauty expectations with a woman that forces female actors to look the same as they did 20 years ago, but lets the male counterparts age and change without any judgment.
What Was The Trolling?
Aishwarya Rai walked this year’s Cannes red carpet in an Amit Aggarwal-designed blue gown, but what followed was again a series of brutal trolling on social media. And this was not the first time.

It’s always great to see a woman taking a stand for another woman. Many female actors in the film industry have come out and spoken strongly about these unrealistic standards that society has set for women, and the liberty they take to judge them based on their outer appearance. From Vidya Balan to Taapsee Pannu and Huma Qureshi, many actors have shared their strong opinions on this. Well, some faceless people on social media will never understand this, but occassionally calling them out and reminding them that a woman’s choices are none of their business is important!
