Rashmika Mandanna Pens Long Note Defending Marriage With Vijay Deverakonda. But Yahan Feminism Kyun Aaya?

After the Koffee With Karan season 9 episode of Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda, the internet got into a discussion about the couple’s marriage. They pointed out red flags in the man, commented on the problematic aspects of their relationship and also judged the woman for her show of love more than the man. Many opinions floated on social media, and finally Rashmika Mandanna has broken her silence on the matter. Read on for more.

What Did Rashmika Mandanna Say?

Rashmika Mandanna penned a long note to slam the judgements surrounding her relationship with her husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda. For the unversed, the controversy began after the couple featured on Koffee With Karan season 9 episode. The couple discussed their relationship, proposal and marriage. The internet lost its mind when Vijay revealed that he had asked Rashmika to marry him

In the note, Rashmika Mandanna defended her husband and clarified that her statements were taken out of context. She also said that the opinions made her feel that the people were just ‘venting’ out their anger at her, and that the meaning got lost in these judgements. She addressed the proposal conversation and said neither of them was looking for any grand proposal. The actor added that they wanted enough time and space for each other, and to do it when the time is right. She also went on to write more about the love that she shares with her husband, and questioned the trolls on why she would marry a man if she did not love him. Rashmika also wrote how Vijay had been there for her on her bad days, and the two would keep choosing each other. The Cocktail 2 actor slammed trolls targeting her family and wrote that, “This is not feminism.” Rashmika Mandanna further wrote that putting a woman or man down was never feminism. And called it ‘bullying.’ Here’s the post.

The idea of feminism is simply treating women as equal to men. And we don’t think that the backlash was ever about feminism. The internet, especially women, got offended because the description of the couple’s relationship felt like the woman was more invested in the man throughout. There is no problem with a woman proposing to a man, but the problem arises when the relationship becomes all about the man. It’s also hard to ignore that such relationship standards being romanticised by two public figures could send a wrong message to impressionable minds. And that’s when we raise the question: Where should the celebrities draw a line when talking about their personal lives?
