R. Madhavan recently became a subject of discussion after admitting that he has never cheated on his wife, Sarita. R. Madhavan Reveals He’s Never Cheated On Wife
While conversing with ETimes, R. Madhavan revealed that loyalty was a family trait. Giving an example of how his family was always loyal to Jamshedji Tata, he stated that they had a photo of him also with the Gods with the mala. He added that he will have to go out of his way not to be loyal. While calling himself a “darpok Madrasi middle-class man,” the actor shared that while he is extremely attracted to attractive girls, at the end of the day, he balances going back to his home and cuddling his wife as opposed to giving an excuse for why he is not there. He also stated that Sarita handles his finances, and because of that she always has access to his phone and accounts.

This Is Problematic
The problem here is that R Madhavan’s explanation of fidelity turns faithfulness into a joke about avoiding trouble rather than respecting a partner. The primary focus seems to be on his personal convenience. This in turn, reinforces the outdated ideas about how women are expected to provide emotional labour in a relationship. Here he should have spoken more about the love, trust and respect towards his wife rather than making it sound like a convenience. It’s high time that we should stop celebrating men for simply not cheating because being faithful should also involve valuing the partner and respecting the relationship and the bond that they have.
