For Propose Day, Team Hauterrfly Lists Their Favourite On-Screen Proposals. Because Off-Screen Love Life Is A Sux!

The way I am a sap for all of these!

While I might not look it but I do tend to be pretty cheesy and love cheesy romance. So as you can imagine that I thrive off anything romance/rom-com. Having said that, I am still a bitter single who chooses to live vicariously through sappy romance novels, movies and animes and sob about how adorable they are. And don’t get me started on how I tear up on almost every adorable proposal scene, because despite being bitter, I am still a hopeless romantic at heart. So, I decided to ask Team Hauterrfly about their favourite on-screen proposals because why not live vicariously through those this propose day?

Schitt’s Creek

What I loved about Patrick’s proposal to David is just how unexpected it was, and he sure made Patrick slum it before popping the question. And his choice of ring, or shall I say, rings? So perfectly cheesy and considerate, emotions that David pretends are “Eww” but secretly wishes people would show him.

That being said, I think a bigger favourite is when Patrick sang for David. It isn’t exactly a ‘proposal’ proposal, but it was a public admission of his love for him and it made my heart melt into this warm mushy puddle, and made David and Patrick one of my favourite ships ever!

Everything about the way Augustus Waters’ expresses himself and his feeling to Hazel Grace Lancaster has my heart, especially this proposal or rather confession of love. I will never get over how beautifully poetic his words are and the way he looks at her with so much longing and admiration. And the unapologetic “sorry” at the end just seals the deal for my sappy heart.

Additionally, call me a sucker for pain but Hazel’s eulogy for Gus will forever have my whole, entire heart. “But Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. You gave me a forever within the numbered days and for that, I am… eternally grateful.” ahhh! I’m not crying, you are!

The Proposal

I love how real and sarcastic the proposal is. While Margaret’s proposal to Andrew isn’t a serious one, their chemistry is evident from this scene itself. It isn’t unnecessarily cheesy or corny. I would like my proposal to be something I can laugh at as well rather than it rendering me teary-eyed.

TBH, there’s just something about airport proposals that make them so special. Maybe because they’re so risky (also unrealistic) and requires one to break all rules to ask a girl out at the risk of getting arrested. Plus Imran Khan’s character is that feminist guy we all want. Jai sets the bar high for feminist men and cute proposals. I mean if a guy can risk getting arrested to stop me from leaving town or if he buys an expensive flight ticket to propose to me in a public, I might just say yes. FYI, I’ve had a guy whisper “I love you” in my ear at the damn airport. I mean, seriously? How can someone mess up a classic Bollywood airport proposal?

Because the proposal finds the magic in the simplest of ways. I mean, no big set-up, no perfect flowers, no great food or destination, still so magical. I think that is how even life is, making every moment special with your favourite person and not caring about that perfect set-up.

As you can see, we at Hauterrfly are a bunch of saps. And can you blame us for how adorable these proposal scenes are? So excuse me while I continue gushing over and shedding tears over these extremely romantic scenes this propose day.
