Priyanka Chopra Remembers Getting Paid Only 10% Of Her Male Co-stars In Bollywood

Actress Priyanka Chopra has proved why she is a global star. While making some wise career moves, Chopra has never shied away from speaking the truth. Putting the true picture on display, Chopra has always been open about her journey in films, be it Bollywood or Hollywood. What we love about the star is her no-filter take on pay parity, and women still fighting for their rights in the entertainment world.

In a recent conversation with BBC, the actress opened up about the realities of her career. With over 22 years of experience in the industry, Chopra rose to fame from being Miss World to leading some of the biggest Hindi films. For Chopra, this golden time in her life wasn’t the easiest to achieve. Taking us back to her initial days in Bollywood, Priyanka confessed the sad realities of pay parity in Bollywood. She said how she often would get only 10 per cent of what her male co-stars in the film would earn.

Besides experiencing the extreme pay gap, Chopra revealed facing tantrums of male co-stars, who were always allowed to take their own sweet time to reach the sets. Explaining the still present cases of the pay gap, Chopra revealed how she would still receive lesser pay checks than her male co-stars if she was still working in Bollywood. She also confesses how actresses of her generation fought to shrink this gap, but were hardly given the same amount, as their co-stars.

While pay parity in a relatively male dominant world was a problem that Chopra was tackling, she explained how feeling beautiful was again a struggle for her. The actress revealed that she faced unnecessary tags like–”black cat,” “dusky” and more. She remembers questioning the obsession over light skin, and how it was normalised by society to shame dark skin. Inspiring millions from her generation, PC reveals her struggles of making it big in a new country. For Chopra, fame did not come as easily, as it looks like. Back in 2015, Priyanka decided to shift bases when she auditioned to get the part of Alex Parrish in Quantico. This opportunity made the actress the first Asian to headline an American network television programme.
Besides bagging some of the biggest roles in Bollywood, Priyanka has made her mark in Hollywood, with red carpet fashion, hosting Oscars, and more. The actress was recently a part of the popular film franchise–The Matrix 4, and shared screen space with Keanu Reeves.

Back in 2018, Chopra tied the knot with American musician–Nick Jonas, in a grand wedding setup in Rajasthan. On January 15, 2022, Priyanka, and Nick welcomed their firstborn–Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, via surrogate.

The actress is currently shooting for her upcoming television series–Citadel, opposite actor Richard Madden.
