Priyanka Chopra Reveals Citadel Was The First Time She Got Equal Pay In Her 22 Years Long Career!

Priyanka Chopra was the first mainstream Indian actor to make her way to Hollywood with a bang! The actress now rules over Hollywood like no other! What’s better is that the actress has paved the path for other Indian actors to act in Hollywood films. Priyanka has been missing from our screens for a while now, but fret not because the actress is all set to return to our screens very soon with Prime Video and Russo Brothers’ spy thriller series Citadel alongside Richard Madden. Recently, at the SXSW Film Festival, Priyanka Chopra spoke about Citadel and pay parity.

During her keynote conversation with head of Amazon and MGM Studios, Jennifer Salke at the SXSW Film Festival on Friday, Priyanka Chopra revealed that bridging the gender pay gap was no easy feat for her. Stating that she might get into trouble for saying this, the Bollywood turned Hollywood queen shared that she has been working in the entertainment industry for 22 years and has done over 70 features and 2 TV shows and yet Citadel was the first time in her 22 years long career when she go equal pay as her co-star.

Speaking further the actress said that despite putting in the same amount of effort and work she gets paid much less but when Citadel happened, Amazon Studios said that she deserves what she got as they’re co-leads and it’s only fair to pay them equally. Priyanka also said that this got her wondering if the gender pay gap in the entertainment industry was due to the lack of female decision-makers and if things would be different had women been in more leadership positions.
If it took an empowered woman, with a platform and backing, like Priyanka Chopra 22 years to bridge this gender pay gap, what hopes do we regular women have? How is it fair to cut a woman a smaller cheque for the same work as her male counterpart only because she’s a woman? I mean, bridging this gap should not have taken this long but now that it has happened, it has given us hopes that we’re moving towards equal pay (but we’re taking baby steps).

For the unversed, Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden starrer Citadel is the first of its kind franchise and the first 2 episodes of the 6-episode series will premiere on the OTT platform Prime Video on April 28.
