Popular 2PM member Hwang Chansung sent fans into a frenzy with his powerful performance in Netflix’s Bloodhounds Season 2. Videos and photos of the singer-actor went viral online and earned him a lot of love and praise. In an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly, Hwang Chansung opened up about the pressure of being an idol actor and also talked about his experience working with superstar RAIN. Read on to know more!

Q: As a 2nd-generation idol who started acting early, did you ever feel like people only saw you as the ‘2PM guy’ and not a real actor? If so, how did you handle that pressure?

A: I would be lying if I said I never felt that kind of pressure and stereotype. But I believe I am who I am today because of 2PM, and that time is also very precious to me. All I could do in that position was just focus on the role I was given and do the best I could in every moment. Just because I ask the audience to see me in a certain way does not mean they will see me that way. So all I could do was do my best where I was and hope that my work would speak for me. If I show good performances, I believe people will also start to see me as an actor on top of the time I have built as Chansung of 2PM. For now, I hope viewers see me as Tae-geum himself in Bloodhounds Season 2.

Q: In your very first drama, Unstoppable High Kick, your character dreamt of becoming a singer like Rain. Now, years later, you’re acting alongside him in Bloodhounds S2. What was that experience like for you?

A: My relationship with Rain goes back to when I first joined JYP, the agency. He was already a pioneer in the K-Pop idol industry. He was one of the first K-pop artists to hold the title of world star. So, he was a figure of admiration for me. When I heard that he was cast alongside, I was very relieved to hear that casting because he’s very comfortable to work with. I’ve had a rapport with him already. I believe the synergy between actors really translates to the screen. And here, this is what I think happened. I’m just glad to have worked with him and to have had him in a leading role in the script as well as in real life.
