Neena Gupta Reveals Why ‘Saans’ Did Not Get A Season 2, Says Channel Was “Not Very Nice” While Rejecting It

Veteran performer Neena Gupta claims that the channel “rejected” the pilot she had created for the potential sequel to her beloved television programme Saans. The semi-fictional series Masaba Masaba, which is based on the lives of Gupta and her designer-actor daughter Masaba Gupta, addresses the tragedy in its second season. Season two of the Sonam Nair-directed series debuted last week on Netflix.

Neena Gupta claimed that she frequently had meetings with the channel three to four years ago, but the second instalment didn’t go through because they disapproved of the pilot. She said that she explained what had happened to her, Sonam and the writers. She said she created a pilot for Saans 2 that was turned down and they behave nicely. Gupta said she wanted to include this in Masaba Masaba.

Neena Gupta acted in, authored the script for, and directed the 1998 romantic drama Saans. In 2019, the actor revealed ambitions to produce season two of the film. The Star Plus programme, which featured Kanwaljit Singh and Kavita Kapoor, ran for more than 150 episodes.

Masaba Masaba‘s creators address complex topics like ageism, mansplaining, and casual sexism through Gupta’s character. Gupta claimed that every character in the show, including her own, stands for a glimmer of hope. She said that she believes giving people hope is crucial in today’s world. Masaba Masaba 2 stars Ram Kapoor as Shekhar Mirza, a former co-star and flame of Gupta.

The actor claimed that working with Kapoor, famed for such programmes as Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Kasamh Se, was a lot of fun. Gupta claimed that Ram was quite charming and she thanked him for working with her despite being younger than her. Ashvini Yardi of Viniyard Films is the showrunner for Masaba Masaba, which also features Rytasha Rathore and Neil Bhoopalam.
