We’re Getting An Indian Adaptation Of Prime Video’s ‘Modern Love’ Series And NGL, I’m Intrigued

Wow, this Monday woke up and chose to go hard, didn’t it? I have the bad habit of checking my phone the moment I wake up (just digital media professional things, hehe!) and why wouldn’t I, if I get thus rewarded? It’s Valentine’s Day and I have already seen trailers of The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, Marvel’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Moon Knight, The Adam Project, Jurassic World: Dominion, Nope! And now here’s another piece of good news that dropped. Modern Love, the beloved series on Amazon Prime Video based on the New York Times column, is about to get an Indian adaptation!

Prime Video India dropped a small announcement about the series on their social media, which said “Love Is Coming Home” across three Indian cities: Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. And the series will also be titled accordingly as Modern Love: MumbaiModern Love: Chennai and Modern Love: Hyderabad, and be in three languages, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

So what stories are they going to be featuring, I wonder? Well, as an avid reader of the column, I can tell you that NYT ‘Modern Love’ column has had so many beautiful stories of different kinds of love (not just romantic love, but also self-love, familial love, friendship, etc). As for the answer to the “How will these stories be adapted to the Indian setting, Aparna Purohit, the head of India Originals at Amazon Prime Video, has said, “While these heartwarming stories are adapted from the famous New York Times column, they’re quintessentially Indian at heart, with the metropolitan cities of Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad serving as the perfect canvas. We’re truly excited to bring these incredible stories to our customers across India and the world.”

Okay, works for me, and I am genuinely intrigued. Modern Love has been one of my favourite columns to read, and even the series has been so beautifully adapted for the screen that each episode, each story finds a way to pull at my heartstrings. The show dropped its second season last year, and I cannot wait to see what they do for the Indian version.

Such a nice little announcement on Valentine’s Day, na?
