In recent events, just a day after the Delhi Police clarified that there was no rise in missing persons in the city, they revealed that the panic around the reported surge in this case was being peddled through ‘paid promotion.’ As per reports, these claims emerge from a film promotion on missing children. And now a Reddit video claiming to have joined the dots claims that the Rani Mukerji starrer Mardaani 3 was in question behind this.

About Missing Persons In Delhi

As per the production house Yash Raj Films, Mardaani 3 is about a new issue of how young girls from 8-9 years from low paying group were being kidnapped for a specific reason from across India. The film, directed by Abhiraj Minwala, was released in the theatres on January 20, 2026, and the latest sequel earned Rs 26 crores in a week. According to NDTV, a YRF spokesperson said, “We strongly deny the accusations floating on social media that Mardaani 3‘s promotional campaign has deliberately sensationalised a sensitive issue like this, and we have immense trust in our authorities that they will share all facts and truths in due course of time.”

As per the official Delhi Police data accessed by PTI, about 807 people went missing between January 1 and 15. And about 509 were girls, and 298 were men. Among the total missing people, 191 were minors, and 696 were adults. Delhi Police issued a clarification stating that there was no need to panic since there were rumours being spread regarding missing persons.

The same day, a Reddit user posted a video stating that it all began in Mumbai a few days earlier, around the premiere of Mardaani 3. He said that ‘unverified WhatsApp forwards’ of missing or kidnapped children were becoming viral on social media, and that influencers were paid to promote the “missing girls” allegation, which was quickly shut down by Mumbai Police. Other Internet users began to wonder if it was about Mardaani 3.
