The film has bagged 7 Oscars with actress Michelle Yeoh winning the Best Actress award for her role in the film. This win was much anticipated after her role in the critically acclaimed film. In her Oscar award acceptance speech, the actress made sure to highlight how this win is huge not just for her and her career but for her entire race as she made history. ICYMI, Michelle is the first Asian woman in the history of the Academy Award to win the Best Actress Oscar.
In her Oscar acceptance speech, Michelle Yeoh said that this win is a beacon of hope and possibility for all those kids who look like her, highlighting how this win will give hope to people of her race. Speaking further, the 60-year-old actress told women to not let anyone tell them that they’re past their prime. Calling her mother a “superhero” the Everything Everywhere All At Once actress dedicated the win to her mother.

Michelle Yeoh’s win is historical because she happens to be the first actress who identifies as Asian to win an Oscar. Before the Malaysian actress, Vivien Leigh (two-time Oscar winner) and Oscar nominee Merle Oberon passed off as white and hid their Asian lineage. Further, actresses Cher, Salma Hayek and Natalie Portman who have won Oscars do not identify as Asian.
