‘Lock Upp’: Poonam Pandey In A Fit Of Rage Calls Nisha Rawal ‘A Bloody Housewife’. Is That Supposed To Be An Insult?
One of the reasons I prefer not to watch reality shows is because I think them to be very derogatory towards women. And it is not just Indian reality shows, no, this is true worldwide. However, since we’re residing in India, let’s just talk about Indian reality shows, focusing more on the currently ongoing show Lock Upp. Kangana Ranaut’s show is all about controversy and where there is controversy, there are fights. But just being in a fit of rage is no excuse for anyone to consider a woman less just because she is a homemaker/housewife. Yep, in a recent promo video of Lock Upp, Poonam Pandey is seen yelling at Nisha Rawal and calling her a ‘bloody housewife’. When did that tag become an insult and why is it one in the first place?

In a recent Lock Upp promo that is doing the rounds on social media, Poonam Pandey and Nisha Rawal can be seen getting into a heated, ugly verbal banter over the quilt. And what started off as a verbal banter soon escalated to a heated spat where the former was seen yelling at the latter and calling her a ‘bloody housewife’.

The Lock Upp promo starts off with Poonam Pandey asking Nisha Rawal if she could take the quilt since she was feeling cold, to which the latter refused. Later, Poonam was seen taking the quilt from her bed and leaving angrily. Seeing this Nisha wonders out aloud what’s her reason to get angry.

An agitated Poonam Pandey reverts saying it is simply about humanity to which Nisha Rawal says that nothing in the jail is their personal property. Soon the former loses her cool and starts yelling and shouting at her. In a fit of rage, Poonam says, “You are a bloody housewife”. Needless to say, the remark leaves Nisha enraged and taken aback at the same time.

What I genuinely don’t understand is why being a ‘housewife’ is derogatory, to begin with. Having said that, even though in a fit of rage, the model revealed the mentality most people in our society have. Being a housewife is as difficult and trying as a working woman. In fact, being a homemaker doesn’t make Nisha Rawal or any other woman less in any way. Honestly, it is disgusting that such a remark came from a woman who calls herself modern and educated.
