Kutch Express Trailer: Ratna Pathak Shah’s Gujarati Debut Looks Promising!

As an entertainment buff, drama films are one of my favourite ways to unplug and relax. Now, I’ll be honest, in terms of content, regional cinema has much more to offer than mainstream cinema. I’m not a Gujarati, but over the years, I learned how to understand the language thanks to all my Gujarati friends in college. And let me tell you this, I’m lowkey glad I understand the language because some Gujarati films totally demand your attention. One such example is the upcoming film Kutch Express. Directed by Viral Shah, Kutch Express stars Ratna Pathak Shah, Darsheel Safary, Mansi Parekh and Dharmendra Gohil. But what makes this film so special? Well, to begin with, this film marks Ratna Pathak Shah’s debut in Gujarati Cinema and we get to watch Darsheel Safary! The film will release in the theatres on January 6, 2023.

Kutch Express follows the story of a woman who has a very happy and content relationship with her husband and family but all is not what it seems. There are parts of their lives that the woman knows nothing about. Unknown to her, her husband has an affair with a woman from work. While not much has been revealed in the trailer, it looks like the woman goes on a self-discovery journey after finding out about her husband’s affair and her mother-in-law (played by Ratna Pathak Shah) and her son (Darsheel Safary) stand by her. Check out this interesting trailer.

Now Ratna Pathak Shah may not be in a lead role in Kutch Express but the actress seems to have a meaty role of a woman who uplifts other women. In one of the scenes in the trailer, when Dharmesh Gohil’s character tells his wife that she can’t ride a bike and says that “women don’t ride bikes”, Ratna’s character questions it by asking the bike if it’s aware of the gender of the person who rides it. And Darsheel Safary too plays the role of a supportive son to his mother in the film. Having said that, let me remind you that we haven’t seen Darsheel Safary on the big screen in the longest time and this will be another refreshing change for us to witness.

Ratna Pathak Shah became a household name with her role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. I mean, we all loved Maya Sarabhai but the actress still never worked in a Gujarati film. Speaking about the same, Ratna said that she has been meaning to work in a Gujarati film for a while now but nothing ever worked out as she couldn’t find anything interesting until now. She further added that she couldn’t resist saying yes when the film came her way as it had a good script, a good team and had to be shot in Kutch. She went on to add that she picked the film because it’s not just another emotional or regressive film but rather something unusual.

Well, we just can’t wait to watch this film!
