Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon recently spoke about the backlash over her Raksha Bandhan advertisement with GIVA. She said that she had never thought her outfit would become a topic of debate on prime-time television news. She opened up about this controversy during a chat with Kareena Kapoor Khan on What Women Want season 6. Read to know more about what she said here.

Kriti Sanon On Raksha Bandhan Controversy

Kriti Sanon was seen wearing a beautiful Indo-Western outfit while celebrating Rakhi with her brother and her pet dog. Many on social media deemed the ensemble “inappropriate” and said that it was not meant for a traditional festival. Others also questioned other elements such as the absence of parents in the background and the inclusion of her pet dog. Amid the backlash, Sanon questioned why women were judged by their clothes and that the ethnic fashion had evolved over the years. She shared several posts about patriarchy and said that one must change their misogynistic attitudes. She also later shared multiple posts about women’s safety on World Daughter Day and slammed people for victim-blaming.

Speaking to Kareena Kapoor Khan, she said she couldn’t believe 6 people on a prime-time news panel were discussing her “choli,” to which Khan said, “I know.” In the same situation, her sister, Nupur Sanon, also spoke on Kriti’s behalf and said she was the one who tied Rakhi to the actress, and she had no problem with what she wears. It is simply not okay to comment on or question a woman’s clothes and judge them based on her neckline. This is humiliating for any woman to become a topic of debate on National television about the clothes that she decided to wear.
