On October 26, Gold Medalist released a statement about the latest investigation. The complaints were filed by Kim Soo Hyun and his agency against people connected to Kim Sae Ron’s family and individuals accused of pretending to be her relatives.

Following the indictment and detention of Kim Seui of Garo Sero Research Institute in connection with the case, alleged accomplices who participated with Kim Seui in a series of offenses, including spreading false information, were also found to have criminal charges against them and were referred to the prosecution. The accomplices referred to the prosecution this time include individuals who impersonated the deceased’s mother and aunt. They face charges including violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation through false statements), violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (distributing recordings made using cameras or other devices), and attempted coercion. A decision was made not to refer the deceased’s father to the prosecution. In addition, the police conducted separate investigations into alleged accomplices who were not originally included in the complaints. Attorney Boo Jiseok, the lawyer representing the bereaved family who led two press conferences using false and manipulated materials confirmed by investigators, including forged or altered KakaoTalk messages and AI-manipulated audio, as well as Kwon Youngchan, operator of the YouTube channel Kwon Youngchan TV, were each found to have criminal charges against them and were referred to the prosecution. Attorney Boo Jiseok was referred to the prosecution on charges of criminal defamation and violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation through false statements). Kwon Youngchan was referred to the prosecution on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (distributing recordings made using cameras or other devices). According to the agency, after the Hoverlab YouTube channel operator was arrested and indicted, several others linked to the case were also sent to prosecutors after investigators found evidence against them.
Gold Medalist said that those sent to prosecutors included people accused of pretending to be Kim Sae Ron’s mother and aunt. They face charges of spreading false information, sharing filmed content, and attempting to force someone to do something.
However, the agency clarified that the late actress’ father was not indicted.
The investigation also looked into other people who were not named in the original complaints. These included lawyer Boo Ji-seok, who represented the bereaved family, and the operator of the YouTube channel Kwon Young-chan TV.
The agency alleged that the lawyer held two press conferences using fake or altered material. Boo Ji-seok was referred to prosecutors over alleged defamation. Meanwhile, Kwon Young-chan was sent to prosecutors over allegations of illegally sharing filmed content.
