Kim Kardashian, Of Beverly Hills, Had Tone-Deaf Advice For Businesswomen, Gets Called Out By Jameela Jamil, Jessica DeFino, More

The Kardashians are one of the most popular (and hated upon) families, in the world. Whether you hate them or love them, you can’t avoid them seeing that they’re almost everywhere. While being popular might sound fun, being in the public eye does sound exhausting considering the fact that everything you do is and will be criticized. However in some cases that is pretty warranted considering that most people who come from such backgrounds don’t really understand the privileged that they live or have grown up with. Kim Kardashian has been criticised online for the advice she gave businesswomen in a recent interview. Many tweeple including actress Jameela Jamil have criticized and trolled her for her tone-deaf remark.
In a recent interview with Variety, Kim Kardashian gave her advice to businesswomen all around the world. She said that they should just get off their ass and put in the work. She then emphasizes the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people who want to work and have a good work environment where there is no toxicity. While her overall statement is admittedly tone-deaf this is something I do agree with. “I have the best advice for women in business,” she said, “Get your fucking ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.”
When asked about the discussion regarding her popularity which says that she is “just famous for being famous”, Kim completely dismissed this opinion. She said that she doesn’t care about it and chooses to focus on the positive. She then said that she has worked very hard and if that’s what people think about her or her family then there is not much she can do about it and does not have the energy for it. She then ended it with, “And hey, we made it. I don’t know what to tell you.”

However many people were not pleased with Kim’s tone-deaf remark considering the fact that she grew up in a rich family and has not faced many of the struggles a lot of common folks go through. People criticized the hypocrisy behind her words considering the fact that she has not faced half of the battles that a lot of other businesswomen who are starting from scratch have to. And to be honest their points are completely valid. Many also went ahead and pointed out the fact that Kim was sued last year for allegedly violating labour laws. For the unversed, the complaint was allegedly filed by 7 former employees from Kim’s gardening and maintenance team. They claim that they weren’t allowed to take meal breaks, haven’t been given overtime pay and were is treated poorly as well. However, Kim’s representatives denied the accusations and claimed that the third party hiring company was at fault.
Jessica DeFino, who worked with the Kardashian family also took to Twitter to detail her experience with them.
I was an editor on the Kardashian apps in 2015 in LA, worked days nights & weekends, could only afford groceries from the 99 Cents Only Store, called out “sick” more than once bc I couldn’t put gas in my car to get to the office, & was reprimanded for freelancing on the side ❤️ https://t.co/mzvnTomjS3

Actress Jameela Jamil also commented on Kim’s privileged background and criticized her for her statement.
She came up from the mean streets of Beverly Hills with very successful parents/step parents… but in a *much* smaller mansion. A TRUE GRIND. An inspiration. A photoshop icon.

Over the last 2 years, women have been sidelined from work they'd like to get back to b/c of caregiving responsibilities and objectionable working conditions (including a lack of PTO, child care, flexible + predictable work scheduling).

Kim really squandered all that good will she built up by handling her divorce like a grown up, only to revert to this. 🤦🏿♀️ https://t.co/17ANKFIpTj

To be honest I completely agree with the backlash that Kim Kardashian has been getting. I am not one to agree with unnecessary online trolling or criticism because I do believe that it can be harsh on one. However, not only Kim but a lot of people in power or who have grown up with privilege do not understand how much harder it is for common people to actually make it the way they have. Another example of this is Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump who also receive similar criticism and backlash for her statement saying that American people do not want things handed to them and would rather work for what they get. This is ironic as she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. While it is not a crime to grow up in a background like this I think it is important to be self-aware about your position in society and understand that not everyone is as well off or as lucky as you are.
