KATSEYE’s Lara Raj Expresses Pride In Representing Indian Culture Globally
Lara Raj from the global girl group KATSEYE sees representing Indian culture as her biggest goal in life. She truly believes this is the reason she exists. As a young girl, she longed for a pop star who would show her that her culture held power.

Born Indian and raised in America, Lara knows her path differs from someone who grew up in India. Still, her culture remains fully hers. It has shaped who she is and forms a core part of her identity.
In her younger years, she felt torn. She dreamed of becoming a major pop star yet feared her culture might block that path. She thought she needed to hide parts of it to match the usual image of a pop star. Over time, she stopped paying attention to bullies and outside noise. She came to see her culture as her true strength.
Lara points out that many parts of Indian culture have been taken and used without proper credit. This includes musical scales, food, jewellery, the grand style of Bollywood, and traditional outfits. Western media has borrowed these elements often. She feels it is important for an Indian person to stand up and represent them properly. She also wants brown girls to wear a bindi with ease or choose a lehenga or saree for prom.

Too often, Indian people face stigma and pressure to fit into narrow boxes. Society has labelled them as uncool. Lara rejects that view completely. Her aim is to place Indian culture on the world stage through music in a respectful and uplifting way. She wants to celebrate her people and raise them up.
