Kangana Ranaut To Play Noti Binodini, The First Female Actress In British Occupied India, In Upcoming Biopic

Kangana Ranaut is expanding her horizons as an actor with her projects. She was last seen in Dhaakad wherein she played the role of a spy. Up ahead, she will also be seen playing the role of India’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, in the upcoming film Emergency! In her career so far, Ranaut has starred in three biopics and is all set to add another to her name as well! She is going to star in a film which will be based on Noti Binodini, the Bengali superstar who was the first female actress during British occupied India.

As per reports, The biopic will be directed by Pradeep Sarkar, who has previously helmed Parineeti. The script of the film is written by Prakash Kapadia, who has penned the storylines of popular films like Devdas, Black, Padmavat and Tanhaji. Kangana Ranaut shared this news through a statement and said that she is a fan of Pradeep Sarkar and is very happy to have gotten this opportunity.

She also expressed her excitement about working on this project and said that she is thrilled to take on this journey with some of the ‘greatest artists’ in the country. Meanwhile, Kangana’s team revealed that the film will go on floors early next year.  Also, the title of the film has not been announced yet.

Kangana Ranaut also took to her Instagram story to share the picture of Noti Binodini and wrote in the caption, “Binodini was the first female actor in British-occupied India. After reaching the highest heights of success, she renounced everything and became a saint.”

Reportedly, Binodini introduced modern techniques of makeup into Bengali cinema. She also was among the first authors from South Asia to have penned her autobiography titled, ‘Amar Katha’ and ‘Amar Abhinetri Jibon’. We are excited to see Kangana Ranaut play this character and kudos to her for bringing the lesser-known stories to the silver screen!
