Kamathipura Residents Protest Against Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ For Defamatory Portrayal Of The Area
As soon as the trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi featuring Alia Bhatt dropped, everyone started praising Alia and Ajay Devgn’s powerful avatar and exceptional acting. But it received a lot of criticism as well for Alia Bhatt’s racist dialogue, Vijay Raaz portraying a trans character, Gangubai’s family criticising the film for portraying their mother as a sex worker instead of a social worker, and now the list also adds the residents of Kamathipura condemning the film for showing the area in a bad light. Recently, the Kamathipura residents staged a protest against Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the defamatory and shameful portrayal of the area in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi. The allegations are never-ending!

Gangubai Kathiawadi is one of the highly-anticipated movies of this year. But ahead of its release, residents of Kamathipura have started protesting against the film and demanding that it should be banned as it shows their area in a bad light. They are carrying the posters and banners of the film while shouting slogans against Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. According to the reports, the protestors are claiming that Kamathipura is 250 years old and many engineers, doctors, pilots who live there are being defamed because of the film. The locals are appearing for the interviews but not getting the job. These reasons are not valid enough to ban the film, TBH.

The story of Gangubai Kathiawadi revolves around a maiden sold by a suitor into prostitution and her journey of becoming a prominent Mafia Queen in the underworld. She also fights for the rights of 4,000 women and children living in the red-light area of Kamathipura.

In the film Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia Bhatt is playing the role of madam of a brothel of Kamathipura, the famous red light area in Mumbai. The film also features Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa in important roles. It is all set to release in theatres on February 25, 2022.
